The next coach

I'd think it more likely Donovan is gone next summer than continues, by his choice or otherwise; but I guess it is not certain.

If / when there is a coaching hire, I assume it won't be the fan's #1 choice or maybe even close.

Who should or will it be? Different questions.

I don't know how many I'll list right now. But I ran across a few names I think might actually get considered and wanted feedback: Jeff Capel and Shaka Smart. I know who they are but haven't studied them, at least yet. To be clear I am not supporting them. What do you think of their ability and / or likelihood to be considered? I think they might fit what Presti wants. Development of young players. No NBA basis to challenge his rule. Disposable in a few years, if desired / necessary after "rebuilding" / "tank" of some degree.

Other names in similar vein would be Johnny Dawkins and Cuonzo-Martin. Maybe Mike Anderson. Knowledge / opinions about these college coaches?

I don't think a former NBA head coach is likely. Maybe a top young or youngish NBA assistant.

What's Kevin Ollie doing? That sounds like Sam.

Becky Hammon.

Both possibilities. Along with NBA assistants Darvin Ham, Adrian Griffin, Jay Larranaga, possibly Mike Brown, Nate Tibbetts, David Vanterpool and Ime Udoka. And other NCAA coaches like Jay Wright , Tony Bennett, Gregg Marshall, Chris Mack and Nate Oates if they were interested and sufficiently compensated to make the move.

Probably internal promotion, from what little scuttlebutt I hear.

Don't know anything particularly positive abut Brian Keefe. If Sam goes that way, whatever. Past time for Cheeks as Head coach. Either would be transitional or not truly aimed for the top, imo. Internal hire would reduce costs. But I doubt they do this though.

As long as the fool responsible for hiring Donovan in the first place is still in charge, I'm not holding my breath.

former player / long-time assistant but first time nba head coach like scott brooks was. maybe sam cassell. or jerry stackhouse. as for what sam presti will do, history suggests he will hire someone who is both outwardly innocuous and internally willing to toe a party line. likely eliminates those two guys above. maybe adrian griffin?

Griffin, Ollie or Udoka are probably finalists.

Maybe others. Some of the other names will decline, not wanting to cede so much turf / control that they are used to having.

Based on Presti's recent press conference, I'd say Donovan likely to stay... if he wants to.
