2020 NBA Draft Thread

College basketball season starts tomorrow. I figured it made sense to go ahead a start our potential pick list here.

Incoming Picks:

2020 first round draft pick from Denver

Denver's 1st round pick to Oklahoma City protected for selections 1-10 in 2020, 1-10 in 2021 and 1-10 in 2022; if Denver has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Oklahoma City by 2022, then Denver will instead convey its 2023 2nd round pick and 2024 2nd round pick to Oklahoma City [Denver-Oklahoma City, 7/8/2019]

2020 second round draft pick from Chicago
Chicago's 2020 2nd round pick to Oklahoma City protected for selections 31-55 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Chicago's obligation to Oklahoma City will be extinguished) [Chicago-Oklahoma City, 2/1/2019]

Outgoing Picks (but not really)

2020 first round draft pick to Philadelphia

Oklahoma City's 2020 1st round pick to Philadelphia (via Philadelphia to Orlando) protected for selections 1-20; if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Oklahoma City will instead convey its 2022 2nd round pick and 2023 2nd round pick to Philadelphia [Oklahoma City-Philadelphia, 11/1/2016; Orlando-Philadelphia, 6/22/2017; Orlando-Philadelphia, 2/7/2019]

Here's a little preliminary reading on some who figure to be the top pick.

LaMelo is not near NBA ready. Picking him high is likely a huge mistake.

I dont know how good LaMelo is or is not. However I don’t want a player with his reputation on the thunder.

His reputation was built by his father when he was 14 years old. It's really kinda sad and not fair.

I agree but that same dad is probably going to follow him wherever he goes. It’s hard to evaluate talent this early but I doubt he’s one of those players that’s so good that you have to pick him despite his flaws. I wouldn’t hold it against Sam If he passed on him and he became a good nba player.

After watching about 5 minutes or casual highlight watching, I’ve decided James Wiseman is the guy I want.

deni avdija has been quiet for maccabi so far this season but his tools are what we need. he might get big and long enough to play the 5 in the nba to some extent and hold his own.

If OKC gets the #1 pick they can have him. I don't think that is realistic.

There isn't one can't miss prospect this year. If I got my pick of everyone for OKC I'd take Cole but I'm not head over heels about him. I think he's the best basketball player out of this class and I think we're still lacking a guy who can collapse the defense and make reads out of it. I think Cole will be able to do that at the next level. People also seem to have the wrong idea about him when it comes to his J too. I think it comes with the classic lazy Rose/Westbrook comparisons for every athletic PG. Cole isn't the freak level athlete someone like Russ is but he gets to the FT line a ton and knocks em down when he gets there.

Serious question. GSW will get a very good position in the draft and I see them as a potential trade partner to get their pick in the draft because they should/could contend next year with Klay/Curry/Green and more pieces. What would be the prize to pay to get their pick if it's 1-10?
Not sure they would trade their pick though since they like to develop players but it's the only team that will get a high position in the draft that could have some interest in doing it.

For us? I don't see how its possible. We don't have any win now talent that's worth that kind of a pick. Depending on how good the pick is, they likely would only trade it for a borderline all-star type player. I could kind of see them just wanting to hang on to it because they'll likely be good enough to compete without needing to add a proven player to the roster. I think the warriors have a ton of options to improve the roster besides their pick. Trade d-lo for Aaron Gordon or Robert Covington. Add that to a healthy Curry and Klay and they probably are better off keeping the pick as a quality player on a cheap contract for a few years.

yup the fact that we don't have any good player on a relatively low salary is the biggest problem.

Maybe in a 3 team if some team think Adams has value as an expiring + 2020 Denver FRP and 2021 Miami FPR ? (getting back one or two bad players in return and GSW 2020 FRP). Still a long shot though :(

It is early but I am not impressed by Avdija. What tools does he have that the Thunder needs? Pushing the ball as a big? Occasionally defense? It doesn't appear to be shooting (inside, outside or mid-range), passing or rebounding in the Euroleague yet or probably in NBA anytime soon.

It probably won’t impact his draft position much, if any. If he does drop any, that gives us a better chance if get lucky with our pick.

Likely impacts it some. Instead of battling for 1 a guy like Anthony probably has a great year and is a lock, and a guy or two have a breakout year and are seen as can't miss. Maybe it's not huge, but I bet he goes from 1 to 3-5
