Did we even draft Diallo? I thought we got him for cash considerations after the draft. Maybe Brooklyn made the pick knowing who we wanted but I seem to recall not even hearing about Diallo to a day or so after the draft. Could be wrong about that.

I seem to recall it was one of those things sorted out fairly late in that evening/morning and we all heard about it the next morning. It's as functionally equivalent to drafting him as it is to drafting Dieng (Cash vs draft "compensation").

I remember it being a trade with the Hornets on draft night. I think we bought the pick off them.

Here are all ousmane’s games. Get after it.

Let me know what you think. You can shape my opinion.

No time for full games at the moment on my end. I watched 20 minutes of his last game and that’ll likely be the last I look into the Aussie stuff. He was off ball. He was a wing. He was trying to be defensively aware off ball and often ended up not exactly where he should have been, but it was apparent that he was trying to do more than just guard his man. He moves alright. Wasn’t explosive. His shot starts low on the opposite side of his body which I always hate. Seemed pretty decisive offensively. Shot the ball quick or went to the hole. Didn’t just hold the ball.

I don’t have an opinion yet, but he is one I didn’t want pre-draft, just because I don’t love poor shooters. It was encouraging looking at his game logs instead of the overall stats.

I saw a fair bit of him in his NBL season (albeit on tv, not live).

He's a wing. I've seen a few post about him as if he's a tall point, and he's simply not. He has a good handle for a young wing, and you'd hope he can get to secondary creator status (initially for a bench unit).

He frankly stank early in the season, and I really struggled with the thought of him being in the NBA. He didn't look NBL ready. His shot wouldn't go in, he got pushed around (even taking his youth into account) and he didn't play with enough force to make his defensive potential anything more than hypothetical.

However, it's worth acknowledging he is a young man who came across the world to play. We were heavily impacted by Covid sanctions, so his NZ team based themselves in Australia. Very much like the Raps did in the NBA.

And...most importantly...he turned things around. Absolutely looked like an NBA prospect down the stretch.

Full disclosure, I wouldn't have used the #11 on him, but there are plenty of Aussies higher on him than me. I just struggle to get the early season stench out of my nostrils.

He seems smooth and versatile to me. Can handle and pass well (for a wing). Can shoot off the dribble, or move to a catch and shoot. Both need improvement though.

Has good defensive versatility and instincts, and learnt to play in a physical league (albeit a way less athletically gifted one than the NBA).

The downside? Well...it seems a hard road for him to hit. He basically needs to do everything he does now, but at a higher level, in a much tougher league. So it's not just his improved play you need to believe in, but the improvement trajectory.

His shooting isn't good enough, he doesn't play with enough force, he's versatile (but not dominant in any way).

Near as I can tell, majority of people here are higher on him than me, so I wouldn't take my read as being too representative. Just my opinion. Watched maybe half his games, so not like I was studying his every moment.

It’s crazy that we are at a point where we actually need some athleticism.

Heh, and we still don’t have the shooting.

I'm a big Jalen Williams believer in that respect.

I feel better about that with Chet and Williams. I know numbers weren’t great for Chet in half court but we’re a lot better off than guys like Diallo, Ferguson, poku and bazley.

I think a shooter is on the short list of things needed to complete this team. This is probably the 12 who are on the roster in 23-24 is they can lock up Kenrich and Luguentz. They will still have just about a full max level contract under the cap if they sign the max guy before Williams and Dort as they have small cap holds.

Chet/ JRE/ JWill
Dieng/ Poku/ Kenrich
JDub/ Wiggins
SGA/ Dort
Giddey/ Mann

We should keep L.Waters as shooter as a two way player (I thought this would already be done?)

He is on a 2-way deal rn. I wonder if they have JWill fill the other 2way spot.

I was looking at the profiles of our draft picks and saw that today is Jaylin Williams birthdate, so happy birthday JWill! Turned 20 years old today.

now it makes sense why i'm so high on his tape. it really makes sense w his charge taking and elite +/- numbers. let's see if he's quite the screen setter though.
