2022 Summer League Thread - Beginning of the Chet Era

I’ve heard a lot of people say that Santa Clara Williams isn’t athletic. He seems real explosive to me. He for sure has a slow pace a lot of the time, but that actually just makes the explosive bursts more effective. I’m pretty sold on him becoming a very good player.

It’s kind of like Shai’s athleticism to me. Change of directions and pace are often more effective than the explosive athlete that goes 100% every move.

imo giddey look both faster and stronger

He has definitely taken a leap physically and looks much better driving to the rim and absorbing contact.

The only thing stopping him from developing into an elite level player is a jump shot - which sadly I’m not sure he will ever correct. The whole thing needs to be completely reworked, he sticks his butt out and has a really awkward base since he is trying to take power off his shot.

He will need to redevelop his release to be softer as it looks like he pushes and flings the ball a lot - likely is a bad habit he picked up when he was young and a lot weaker. After that is corrected he will need to rework his base which is a significant amount of work to try and do at 20 years old.

I can’t remember the podcast I was listening too but the host talked about who New Orleans having one of the best shooting coaches in the league. For all of the flawed shooters we’ve drafted, I really can’t understand why we don’t prioritize that over a director or foresight and insight.

Summer league really isn’t a venue for glue guys to shine.

What were your expectations for him, both in summer league or the season?

I can’t imagine many scenarios that a second round pick in summer league could disappoint me.

Relax . We got 4 rookies and pretty much a lot of sophomore . Kinda hard for a second round pick to find his role in this setup .

On a good note giddy has been hitting the gym and it shows he looks really stronger just wished he could shoot better.
