Looking way ahead (2009 Draft)

Reading the 2008 FA thread, and the mention of bringing hometown OSU guy Tony Allen in as a free agent, got me thinking.

By no means do I expect the team to be very good this season, but rather expect them to have another top pick in the draft.

Currently, nbadraft.net and draftexpress, have OU big man Blake Griffin projected as #1 and #2, respectively.

Not only does Blake go to school at OU, but he also went to high school here in Oklahoma City.

I know, this is very far in advance, but with the team's needs in the front court, the possibility of Wilcox not returning to the team (expiring), and all the talk that Oklahoma City may not be able to acquire or keep any high profile players, what better than to land one of the best big men prospects who just happens to be born and raised in Oklahoma City.

Seems like a perfect fit.

He certainly fits a need they will have to address in the next draft. If they are able to get him it will be justified as a need and not just a ploy for a local star.

Yeah I expect another top 5 pick in 09. Griffin could be nice, looks like there could be a lot of potentially great players in that draft.

I still get excited thinking about the unprotected pick in 2010 that Presti stole from the Suns. I expect the Suns to be a lottery team this year and in 09-10 they could be even worse.

With the cap room we could have in 2010 I would salivate at the chance to make a run at bringing in Bosh. A huge fan of CB4 and I think by that time Durant will be prime and you combine those two with others emerging (Westbrook? Ibaka?) they could be the ant-blazers

Blake would be a great fit with our team. We were good friends in elementary school when he was homeschooled and he has a great family who have made his work ethic great. His dad Tommy is a high school basketball coach who's been winning state championships for decades and would probably end up working with the team in some way, he would also be a great addition for our team. The only thing to worry about with Blake is he can be very emotional, if he channels his emotions then he could be one of the best players in the league, if he doesn't then he could end up being a marginal backup. But like I said he does has a great family and being in Oklahoma close to them would probably keep him in check

I would want Ricky Rubio for this squad, you can go uptempo, and he'd be great feeding an athletic team, and he might be the best ball thief in the league, sparking breaks left and right.

from what i have heard, Rubio is supposed to be a pretty good talent. The problem is, he is a PG (can he play SG?) and since Westbrook was just drafted it probably wont happen.

Either a C or PF is really the team needs, they have a very good backcourt right now.

I agree. I dont think Westbrook is a full-time point guard, and I think a world-class distributor like Rubio would be great for the Durant/Green/Westbrook core.

Rubio has a 6 million Euro buyout. 9-10 million dollars is pretty steep even if he were to be the #1 pick, could be even more if the dollar keeps tanking. Plus he's going to get major offers to stay most likely twice or 3 times what he could make as a #1 pick in the NBA.

If he truly wants to play in the NBA he's going to have to give up a lot of cash up front and take a chance on making it back later. He could make it back in a major market easy but not in OKC. We'll see what happens.
