So the Thunder might not be the nickname of the team. ESPN.com reported that the NBA has filed to trademark Bison, Barons, Thunder, Wind, Marshalls and Energy.

Well I personally hope its not Energy or Wind.

Which do you prefer?

Who the hell came up with Wind? I mean c'mon! Oklahoma City Wind???

i personally think Wind should be replaced with Slickers. It would be the greatest team name in the league. Oklahoma City Slickers.

Terrible:

Energy - Seriously? Oklahoma City Energy? Will the Ford Center be renamed the Chesapeake Center?

Wind - Just, um...no. I just wouldn't be able to contain my enthusiasm for an impending Heat/Wind matchup.

Bison - Hey, at least it's not wind!

Marshalls - It's alright, but it just doesn't seem to roll very well. Besides, that's one long team name.

Thunder - I guess it could grow on me, but right now, it seems pretty lame. I guess Jazz sounds kind of lame, too, when you step back and think about it. When I think of The Thunder, I imagine an arena football team though, not an NBA Franchise.

Good:

Barons - This is definitely my favorite. It sounds good, it's relevant and would give some flexibility with a mascot. Plus, it ends in an "s", so we wouldn't have to join the Magic, Jazz and Heat as teams not ending in "s".

I think Thunder and Marshalls are the best out of those. The real question, though, are they just putting out trademarks for all of these to try to get back some of the thunder that the KOCO announcement took away? (PUN Intended)

I like the Bison the Barons are a maybe ...anything else sounds wnba-ish. Ya;ll need to think long term and uniforms..." it's the Boston Celtics vs the OKC AEP's or PSO's ...remember they are in the land of the sooner and the.. cowboys..

I think they have has such a negitive reaction for the Thunder ..and a backlash for not allow the city to kind of have an input in the name ..

And like i said before, the Wind/Bison/Energy are the worst names up there.

Does anyone know why the word "marshal" s being spelled with 2 "L"? Is the team being named after a person named Marshall? The law officer's title is correctly spelled with one "L"

On the news here last night they made the point that it was Marshalls with 2 L's but i dont think they said a reason.

Maybe they're trying to create a new word that means something none of us know yet? Or maybe they have a deal with the store Marshalls? who knows?

Since the name of the city is so long already, it would be kind of fun if they just used a couple of them together. How about the...

You know what I like these better then the ones they've chosen. It's got to be Barons of the ones they've selected though.
