I know, I know...Kevin Durant is untouchable. And he should be, but just humor me here and let me know if this idea piques your interest.
Let's just say the Washington Wizards end up with the #1 pick in the draft and on draft night select the kid from Oklahoma, Blake Griffin.
Would OKC consider the following trade:
Wizards send:
rights to PF Blake Griffin
SF Caron Butler
SG Nick Young
Thunder sends:
SF Kevin Durant
PG Earl Watson
Basically its a 3-for-1 deal. Watson is cap filler. I think its the type of offer one would have to put forth to make an "untouchable" player "not-so-untouchable". OKC gets a #1 pick and Sooner alum in Griffin, a two time all-star replacement at SF in Caron Butler and a young athletic shooter in Nick Young to play SG where there's a definite need. Also you'd still keep your high lottery pick which allows you to address either the C position or add another top level guard into the mix.
For the Wizards, it brings Durant back to the DC Area where he grew up, giving the franchise the type of player it needs to hopefully pair with a recovered Gilbert Arenas to improve their long term chances in the East.
Thoughts?

Re: FLAME AWAY!!!
KD and Arenas would kill each other.
Nick Young, love his potential. Caron Butler is gonna get his 20+ and Blake, nothing needs to be said. But this deal is garbage, espiecally when a player with KD's potential is in it.
Replace him with a Jeff Green+Collison package and maybe we got something.

Is it really a garbage deal if your getting a #1 pick, an all-star in his prime and a young player with potential?
I like Jeff Green too but lets be serious here, Green isn't gonna get ya a #1 pick OR Caron Butler.
I was hoping that this would be the type offer that might blow someone away or at least, make one think about it.
Griffin, Butler, Green, Westbrook, Krstic, Young AND a top five pick really puts OKC in a nice position for the future as well as allowing them to be competitive now. The deal doesn't hurt or affect payroll much. Butler is signed to a nice priced deal at two more years after this and outside of Watson you keep all of your expirings.

Re: FLAME AWAY!!!
Dat2U, I would have to say that you at least accomplished the goal of getting some interest. I think anytime, as you said, somebody offers a border-line all-star SF, a #1 pick, and a potential filled SG you've gotta listen. I would think that after a lot of deliberation OKC would have to say no, but it really is an interesting offer. You figure on the OKC side that a squad with Butler, Green, Westbrook and maybe the top 2 picks in the draft with Young coming off of the bench is pretty appealing. I just don't know if OKC can afford to trade the player that they've geared all of their marketing in a new city around. Griffin would obviously help gain it back, but I think ultimately they'd hold onto Durant.
Very interesting deal in any case though...

There are number #1 picks like Dwight, LeBron, and Shaq. And then there are #1 picks like Derick Coleman, Kwame, and Bustani.
Now I think Griffin will be closer to the first group than the second group but you don't trade a kid who is 20 and dominating the league today to find out if Griffin might be able to play at his level. Plus remember all the hype about Beasley, many thought he'd be better than Durant? How are Beasley's numbers these days?
Plus this deal also crowds the SF position. If Griffin and Butler both start where does that leave Jeff Green?
I see what you are doing but honestly it's simply too flawed.
OKC should be able to draft someone who can come in and start and then throw some money at a free agent to fill the other hole at either SG or C.

yeah wiff, I'm definitely a bigger fan of your more conventional approach... plus I think if we're going to make a deal, it will be one which sees possibly Green leave (as much as I like watching him), in order to get everyone in their "natural" positions. Fun to think about though...

I think it's a decent proposal, although I am not sold on Griffin. It would mark a change in the strategy for rebuilding this team, and prefer the course they're on right now. Thanks, but no.
from ny, never been a fan of the knicks...
