Chandler is there another reason trade cancelled
The reason given for cancelling the trade seems a bit minor to me is there another reason the trade was cancelled, maybe a player who wasnt avaliable is now on the block or has a players value dropped dramatically. But to me it does seem a bit fishy unless Hornets knew he had serious injury and covered it up.Its gonna be a mad 24hrs as I cant see Presti not dealing for someone.Maybe a deal for one of Hinrich,Amare,Bosh,Kaman could be in making.

Definitely seems fishy to me but hopefully this will prove to be for the better of the team later on. I doubt that they would cancel a deal this lightly, so the real reason(s) must be good.

Re: Chandler is there another reason trade cancelled
While at first I thought there might be another deal at hand, that would look bad. One thing I thought off is there is no need for either team to make this deal right now. Unlike most of these types of trades they can make another run at in the offseason when the Thunder will have the caps space alone to acquire Chandler. So why take a huge financial risk when you have doubts if you can do the same thing in 3 or 4 months and be sure. It won't even cost NO any money either.

The other possibility is this NBA Memo that went out yesterday. Is it possible that the Thunder used the physical loophole to get out of Chandler's salary after being formally warned by the league that salary cap/lux cap would be reduced over the next 2 yrs?

Here is a note that claims Asthma was part of the reason.

Well turf toe, and Asthma do seem a bit minor. However turf toe did keep Rashard Lewis out of the playoff series against the Spurs.
I think it might of had something to do with the memo as well. Maybe they felt they could get more value in the offseason because no one else is going to be spending money?
I'll tell ya what though this is really going to take a huge bite out of Shinn's back pocket.
You know NOH have to be losing ton of money and with the luxury tax dropping yikes.
Ironically this could lead to the Hornets becoming the Sonics.

I have heard that speculation, and that would be CRAZY. Sad to think that the Hornets could've stayed in OKC and we would've avoided this whole catastrophe.

Really twisted if this potential fallout happens to the Hornets.

Doesn't sound like New Orleans made any more moves after this one got canceled... I really hope for their sake that we didn't just screw them big time.

The Hornets are not moving to Seattle. They are having their best financial year since leaving Charlotte and season ticket sales are the highest they have been since being in New Orleans. Also, the minority owner has very deep pockets.

Yeah, the fans in New Orleans have definitely stepped up (mostly due to the Hornets being a winning team and the high hopes heading into the season). I truly hope that the Hornets stay there and that the city and the team are both successful.

Chandler wasn't affordable for OKC
The reason the Tyson Chandler trade was cancelled was for financial reasons. The Thunder cannot afford his $25 million salary. The give away of Wilcox for Rose and cash and a 2009 first for Thabo Sefolosha were also financial moves. This franchise is in serious trouble. The first round picks are not seen as assets but liabilities. They represent guaranteed five year deals the team cannot afford. Bennett, and his bankrupt ownership crew nixed the Chander trade and Presti did what he was told and dumped salary fast. There will be no big free agent acquisitions. Every trade Bennett and Presti have made to date have been to dump salary. They have not acquired a single player via trade that was intended to make this team better.

I think the management realized there will be better ways to utilize their cap space in the summer.

This just isn't true. While I will definitely concede that the trade very well could've been canceled due to the memo which the league sent out about the salary/luxury caps going down, the franchise isn't in financial trouble. They're getting excellent fan draw and Oklahoma City (of which the Thunder ownership group owns a large share of most of the major businesses), was just named the #1 most recession-proof city in the country. Sure, they're struggling as much as anyone else, but it's not like they're even in the bottom 50% of the league as far as needing financial help.
As far as the moves... I'm not saying that they've made any Knicks-esque moves to trade 20 mil in expirings for Vince Carter. But the acquisition of Krstic shows more than any other, that they're willing to spend a fair amount of money to acquire a player which will help in the long-term.
I definitely wish Chandler would've worked out, maybe as much as anybody. But, aside from that, it makes absolute sense for them to trade Wilcox to a place where he can play for a new contract while getting some more money to pay guys that will actually be a part of the future.
Also, 1st rounders do not have 5 yr guaranteed contracts. They have 2 year guaranteed contracts, with team options for an additional two years. Aside from the lack of a team option for a 4th year, Thabo's contract is significantly "more damaging" than that of what will probably be the ~28th pick in this year's draft. The team also elected to trade for D.J. White (a 1st rounder) with two second round picks (non-guaranteed contracts).
Obviously none of these moves have been bank-breaking, but it definitely does not show the insane aversion to spending any money that you are swearing is there.
