No news at all that I've seen. They went ahead and waived Sene. I would think if they had immediate plans to let Smith walk, they would've held onto Sene, as they have to pay his contract anyways. I know there are a few teams out there really interested in how it plays out. But without being able to get anything in return via a trade, I think pretty much all of the urgency is gone from our standpoint.

Great to see that at least one vet in this league doesn't wanna jump on the easiest bus to a championship. I have been very impressed with Smith as a teammate this season, and this just reinforces the fact that he's one of the great professionals in the league.

What do you think about Smith now that he is seeking a buyout?

I haven't seen anything where Joe said that he wanted out... Agents talk about stuff all of the time. However, yeah, it does take away from the positives I saw in him speaking highly of the team that he is on and not just looking to escape.

I'm not really going to care a whole lot either way, I'm just really a fan of the loyalty it takes for a fairly skilled veteran player to ride it out with the team he is on instead of just trying to Horry his way to a championship.

to be fair though, he was with cleveland last season so it's a little different

plus cleveland is the one who was trying to get him so hard, he seemed kinda apathetic to it prior.

even if he were "horrying"(or whorrying!), you have to look at it from the perspective of the player. if you are in the nba for a decade + and have yet to win a championship, you strive to get that glory, and sometimes if you're in a bad situation with a team and you're already that old, that makes it almost impossible to reach that glory.

Oh yeah, I understand. And I'm not saying that it is an underhanded thing to do by any manner. I also agree that if he goes to CLE (which it seems like he will), it's a little bit different because he at least has an attachment to that team. I'm just not a fan of this annual exodus of older players to the top 3-5 teams. I have nothing against Smith at all, he was quite the professional when he was here and put in solid minutes when he was in the game.
