Someone PLEASE explain to me why we got rid of Delonte West

Post#1 » by KD_Stan » Sat Feb 28, 2009 4:51 am

Why? WHY?

We could've had him at PG and instead of westbrook and drafted brook lopez.

This is the one thing Presti messed up on in a major way.

Because Delonte West is a nice role player, a guy who's perfect as a sixth or seventh man. A player who thrives when defenses focus on 2 or 3 better players in his team. He does the little things and is a decent player.

But since you're building your hate fest around the fact that Westbrook isnt a true pg, this topic makes you look stoopid. No team wants to have West as it's fulltime pg, since he's basically a combo guard which much less talent than Westbrook.

But yeah, you go ahead and push your silly agenda.

my agenda is far from silly.

it stems from facts, my powerful knowledge of the game, and desire for OKC to build a contender.

Delonte is solid indeed, you cant have a superstar at every position. I'll take a delont/lopez combo at C and PG any day over westbrook/collison. and the fact that you wouldn't exposes your lack of knowledge of this gloriously delicious game we call basketball.

I was very upset when we got rid of Delonte. I really thought he would be part of the future and would become our starting point guard. But he left Seattle before he actually was able to unpack his stuff.

It's all speculation, but the Thunder would be awesome with that starting lineup.

A lot of height, mismatches, versatility and good balance on offense/defense. Lopez is a pretty good post defender and already a phenomenal scorer. The Nets got lucky.

Lopez has definitely been solid for the Nets, and it's tough to say I wouldn't want him around. But just straight Westbrook for West? Why?

With your powerful knowledge, it is hard to see how you could miss that West + Brook = Westbrook. So mathematically speaking, if Collison is greater than zero, West + Brook is less than Westbrook + Collison. (This was a joke, if anyone doesn't get it, don't worry about it...)

In any case... with some work on the decision making front, there is not really any area in which Westbrook will be inferior to Delonte. The guy has great basketball skills, but at this point his PG skills are definitely not quite developed.

yes, to a genius basketball talent evaluator and an honorable man such as myself, that was obvious.

and you cannot sit here and with a straight face claim that a west/lopez combo is not FAR BETTER than westbrook/collison one.

Westbrook for rubio this summer.

Do it Presti!

I demanded an explanation and I will not stop until someone provides one.

Why do we not have lopez at center and west at pg right now?

why are having to watch westbrook and collison?

I think it's pretty obvious to see why Presti traded West.

First off Delonte is 100% combo guard. And truly is about = to Westbrook.

The guy can ONLY go left.

Plus apparently you do not understand the value of Donyell Marshall and having to pay him close to 6mil in salary and he isn't even on the roster. Duh!

Plus the fans of Seattle got to witness the joy that is Jared Dudley

most players didn't, but i doubt thats the reason Presti got rid of him. therefore i would like to know by wha logic did presti conclude that west had to be traded?

Do you have evidence of this or are you just trying to bait posters? Because honestly by looking at your other threads that's what you like to do best.

Delonte came in when the team was in total transition or should I say being ripped apart to lose fan interest in Seattle. Luke, Earl and Delonte were all competing for minutes. There was no clear cut role for any of them at any time. I think it messed with all of their heads

On the other side of that. Presti worked with Danny Ferry in San Antonio, and I think it's safe to say he was helping out a friend. Because Presti tends to get the better end of trades and that was obviously one sided.

I bait no one kind sir.

My posting is thought-provoking, powerful, fascinating, captivating, and immaculate. To some, the responsibility and the privilege of engaging in an exchange with someone that produces such high-caliber posting is too great and they resort to the cheap and class-less tactic of fear-mongering by depicting me as this boogeyman.

But like the phoenix I rise, for the bball expertise I shower these boards with are immune to such character-assasination attempts.

Furthermore, my evidence that supports the claim that seattle was not a hot destination by players is the fact that there were never any free agents dying to come to seattle, nor were there ever any players requesting trades to seattle even when the sonics were good.

They had a backcourt crowded with a bunch of guys under 6'4" that were all fairly mediocre players. Somebody had to go. West was the fairly insignificant piece that got to leave first. Ridnour was next, and now Watson will leave sometime too. None had long-term futures as the PG of a championship team and none were really significant losses to me.

See this is funny, you are not being intellectually honest. In other words, you are speaking out of your butt.

You claim that most players didn't like playing for Seattle then you change it to free agents after I called you on it.

Funny how you know "most players" didn't like playing for Seattle yet you don't know the first thing about what went on with Delonte West.

Sounds like you really have your finger on the pulse with Sonic basketball.

If we had Delonte West and were looking for a big in last years draft, there is no chance we would have taken Brook Lopez anyways.....

Because at the time the Sonics had a logjam at the PG position with Ridnour, Watson and West and over the course of the season West played himself out of the rotation/was underutilized so Presti got rid of him. Westbrook is a far superior player and I would much rather have him now and in the future. I like West and how he plays; but he's not a PG, he's nothing more than a role player and keeping him around wouldn't of made us any better.
