An outside look at your team

Post#1 » by diggity_88 » Tue Apr 7, 2009 7:32 pm

Hey, I was just wondering where the fans of this team are looking towards building this team.

Are you looking to keep westbrook as your starting PG?

what about keeping Green at power forward?

Are you comfortable with him at that position or are you looking to trade him?

Who are you guys really gunning for to get in the draft? from what i've read you guys are really hoping to pick up thabeet as your centre.

Personally. I think Westbrook right now is good where he his, but eventually will be most effective coming off the bench as your sixth man scoring spark. Something like a Ginobli or Bobby Jackson for Sacremento in their prime days. But, this is a look from someone who has only seen this team a limited amount of times.

I really think picking up Rubio would be a great fit into this system, moving up to get him I think would be the smartest idea your team can do. Because, correct me if i'm wrong, but this seem to really get going from their pesky defense, then fast break buckets.. and that's where you really excel.

Just curious to see some of your answers and comments, as this team is growing very fast as one of my favourite teams, because of its out look and potential. You're just a few pieces away from being something very special and scary

Welcome to RealGM diggity.

I think the general sentiment around this board is that we like all of the key pieces we've currently got. Obviously Durant is around for the long-haul if we can hold onto him... Green and Westbrook aren't untouchable nearly to that point, but are really solid players that most would like to see at the PG and PF spots with Durant at the 3.

The draft heavily depends upon where we're picking. Sitting at 6th, there's about a 40% chance we'd be picking top 3 and I doubt that our order would differ much from other teams in those top slots. The likely outcome is that we'd be picking around 6th and have to take a shot at one of the guys there. You can weigh-in in our 2009 draft thread to see what people think about that and give your own opinion.

Would you bring STD-Wade off the bench? Look at Wade and Westbrook's numbers for their rookie year. Obviously Westbrook has a ways to go to get to STD"s level today, but Westbrook is two years younger his rookie year than STD-Wade was.

If Westbrook can find a consistent jumper over the next couple seasons, write his name down for the All-Star game for the next 7 years.

No, I get what your saying. Its just.. something bugs me about undersized 2 guards, although it is pretty dumb, seeing how effective alot of them already are around the league. I just think having a typical point to run the offense with durant and a force in the middle, with him coming off the bench would for a defensive minded SG would help this team. Not sayin his minutes go down just something to light up that second unit.. while having a balanced team in the starting lineup. Sorta like that saying of having your best 5, not your best 5 players. But, like i said ive only seen a couple of games from them, and its a very amatuer look at the outlook, so i could be completely off.

I agree with Westbrook coming off the bench. His game doesn't fit the game manager role at all. First off, we shouldn't be comparing Westbrook to Wade, because Wade's approach to the game is to create offense by him alone putting the ball through the hoop. Wade doesn't play with a talent like KD. So if Westbrook is going to be OKC's starting PG then he has to be more of a facilitator rather than a scoring machine. But if Westbrook comes off the bench, he could run that 2nd unit as the number 1 option. Plus if Nenad comes off the bench with him, I see a solid 1-2 punch. As for Jeff Green, I mentioned this before, and I'll say it again...TRADE him! Look at it this way, the Lakers have Lamar playing the 4, great PF that gives you boards, assists, blocks, and a good slasher, but many still think that Lakers need Pau at the 4 and Bynum at the 5 for the Lakers to be the clear cut favorites this coming playoffs. If Jeff ever reaches the play of Lamar at the 4 then there is still the question of being undersized. I like Jeff and I hope he continues to improve, but he just isn't a 4.

I just wanted to point out that Russell Westbrook is a rookie. God forbid that he isn't everything that he is going to be in his career right now. People need to develop some patience. By the way, Westbrook has more double digit assist games than any other rookie point guard. He also is the only rookie in the top five in scoring, assists, and rebounds for rookies.

I wasn't judging him on his stats so much as a basic look of his style of play. To me it seems he needs the ball in his hands to be effective.. and that also means to make himself effective. Because with the ball in his hands, i don't mean his facilitating an offense.. but more of looking for his shot. That's also where I think most of his assists come from.. with his dribble penetration and dish outs.
