So would the deal simply be #25 and Suns 2010 for #14? If that's the case, then I would hate this trade for the Thunder. It's looking like the Suns won't make the playoffs next season, which means AT WORST the pick will be where their pick is in this draft. With it unprotected though, that could be a top 5 pick! Plus next year is supposed to be a better draft. Don't know why the Thunder would be interested???

If BJ Mullens is taken with the #14 pick then i think its a brilliant swap. OKC needs a Center, and how do they land one, via draft,FA, or trade. Now its hard to land a solid center by trade so lets take that option outta the way. FA? doesn't look quite intriguing IMO (Gortat,Birdman). Via draft? So we got Thabeet, which most likely is going to end up in Memphis, and we got the next best Center prospect, BJ Mullens (predicted to go from anywhere from picks 14-20) Now lets look at the 2010 Draft prospects:
Cole Aldrich-top 5
Donatas Motiejunas-top 5
Greg Monroe-top 10 (more of a PF)
Solomon Alabi-mid 1st round
Demarcus Cousins-mid 1st round (more of a PF)
As for needs, OKC needs a Center and snatching BJ in this year's draft is a STEAL

it really depends on where you think the suns will finish next season. if presti has his sights on a particular player that will be available at #14 then i wouldn't mind the trade. i don't think this is a move he'd make without targetting someone specific.

there is no certainty that phoenix's 2010 pick will be better than #14..

This is a weak draft where you could get equal value from 10-25.

As said before, the Suns won't make the playoffs next season and they know it, that's why they'd want their pick back. The 2010 draft is stacked and the Thunder would be wise to hold on to that pick.

Suns probably won't make the playoffs next year
2010 draft >>> 2009 draft

Why give an unprotected pick that will most likely be in the lottery just to move up 10 spots in a "weak" draft. Mullens has potential, sure, but doesn't it tell you something when he's going at the end of the lottery and he's easily the 2nd best prospect at center and only 19? How awful would think trade look if Phoenix's pick ends up moving up in the lottery next year and is therefore top 3? It's bad enough to say that the trade would be like #14 this year for #14 next year and #25 this year...

It seems like management has shown great patience in letting things develop and not trying to find a quick fix everywhere else... why jump on this wagon? This HAS to just be one of those random draft rumors that pops up because somebody thought it was a cool idea.

There has to be more to the trade because....

#25+2010 unprotected pick> #14

Suns are obviously wanting to blow it up and start new they just don't want to have to give up a lottery pick.

This is exactly why the 2010 pick was so huge when Presti acquired it. Nash would be older and three years is an eternity in pro sports.

You really think Presti is going to give back part of his best moves as a GM?

Plus you think Shaq, Amare and Nash are all going to hang out an re-sign extensions?

The Suns are in a bad, bad, bad position. Try to save some money by blowing it up and trading away players and have no lottery pick. Or try to make it work, lose a boat load of money and be left with an empty cupboard come the start of the 2010/2011 season.

No way are the Suns getting their pick back if this alone is the trade.

Suns fan here.... If this potential trade between OKC and Phoenix is real, I hope the Suns pull the trigger. My thoughts are that if the Suns don't pull the trigger, they will not begin the rebuilding process (trading Nash, Shaq and maybe Amare). If they keep Nash and Amare, then OKC pick (from the Suns) won't be a lottery pick and will lose alot of its value. Even though next year's draft is better, if the Suns keep their core, they will make the playoffs. I hope the Suns start over and this trade would help facilitate this.

No way this happens. Presti has all the leverage here, if the Suns want to completely rebuild a year earlier they NEED that pick other wise they hold on to dear life w/' shaq and nash next season

I appreciate the optimism and all... but what will be different from this past year that will get the Suns into the playoffs. Most of the teams that were in the playoffs have gotten or are gettitng better. The only change for the Suns (who have to get better from last season in order to step into the playoffs) is that arguably 3 of their best 4 players (Hill, Shaq, Nash) just got a year older at the end of some pretty long careers. They're also losing the spirit that had Shaq pointing to his ring finger when he arrived in Phoenix. I think it's more likely to be a top 10 pick than it is to be a non-lottery pick, but that's just me :)

Maybe it's a preamble to an Amare trade :reporter:

The Suns were one game out of the playoffs with Amare injured for most of the 2nd half of the year. If the Suns don't dismantle, they would have a team of:

Nash
Amare
Shaq
Hill
JRich
Barbosa
Dudley
Lou
Pick #14

and others which is more than enough to make the playoffs, I feel. I don't think the Suns dismantle without having that OKC pick back in our heads. It would be too difficult for the Kerr/Sarver to have that pick be a top 5 pick in a good draft.

Suns will keep the #14 and will be in the playoffs next season. Suns will move a big expiring just before the trade deadline because teams will be really feeling the bad economy then and pick up a 2010 pick in the process.
