2010 cap 50.4mil???

Well if the memo holds true the cap cold be as low as 50.4 mil for the 2010/11 season.

Which mean the Thunder will have 17.5mil in cap space to attempt to land a free agent during the 2010 free agent bonanza.

Of course if they manage to land a free agent, and after Durant is given an extension the luxury tax will pretty much be staring every one else in the eye.

Somehow I think management will wait to use their cap space on the players they already have.

I can't see a market like OKC go soaring into the luxury tax.

I really hope this isn't true. Hopefully the economy improves a bit by next year

I don't think that you can justify paying the luxury tax without making a substantial run into the playoffs. I think that is true of everyone not named the Knicks. The one silver lining in this dark cloud is for a team like Portland who is going to give Brandon Roy a maximum contract extension in 2010-11. Since a max deal is determined by a percentage of the cap, which in turn is determined by the previous year's basketball related income; if revenue is down for next year like is being forecasted, the Trail Blazers won't have to pay Roy as much as the Hornets are paying Chris Paul or the Thunder will have to pay Kevin Durant.
