Thabo Sefolosha Extended

Didn't see a topic on this. Four year deal it looks like, maybe starting at $4 million. Not really sure why they didn't wait until the offseason to do this unless they feel Sefolosha has a lot more game in him and wanted to lock him up at that price?

Thabo's a great glue guy and player to have around, it'd be nice to have the SG position locked up for four years between him and Harden at a combined $8 million or so a season...

Here is a John Hollinger article on why to sign Sefolosha now instead of this off-season. http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_ ... -sefolosha

I'm a big fan of Sefolosha, I think he is a key guy on our team. I compared him to our Bruce Bowen and he is pretty much that, just not quite as physical.

Kind of lost track of this in all of the fun of the season opening... My opinion definitely depends upon the dollar amount, but in general (especially after seeing Thabo knock down a few jumpers) I feel really good about it.

Slick, if the 4 mil starting salary is right, and I think that's somewhere near market value... then I think that's about the right price. After this season, he'd probably fetch more on the open market, as I believe that he's a Battier/Marion type game changer/glue guy.

I guess that explains it. Forgot Thabo was taken that high.

Thabo Sefolosha’s new contract numbers, after signing a four-year extension in Oklahoma City, were circulated through the league Thursday.

The year-by-year breakdown:

*$3 million in 2010-11

*$3.3 million in 2011-12

*$3.6 million in 2012-13

*$3.9 million in 2013-14

So the extension, which also includes incentive bonuses, totals $13.8 million over four years starting next season. Sefolosha is earning $2,759,628 this season.

Yeah I think they wanted to buy low on Thabo.

I think they got a steal on Thabo as well.

If he came out this year and played like he did on opening night he could push his price tag considerably higher.

If his contract goes from 3 to 4 mil in four years that is Damien Wilkins type money for a starter. That's a bargain.

By the way after watching the first game how bad did Harden look? He looked really spotty out there. I'm sure nerves played a part in it but dang.

Thabo might be the starter for quite a while.

If Thabo can shoot even an okay percentage from 18-23 feet out, then he should be the starter all year long. Harden should be a very good player, but his biggest asset to us at this point is his shooting/scoring... which a lot of on the bench. I would say he didn't look BAD, more just extremely tentative. He seems to have a very passive personality in general, which makes me think he'll need to be in the right situation to succeed (lots of confidence, good players around him, etc.)

Seems like Market value for a player of Thabo's caliber. If he can develop that three-point shot and become and Ariza-type player (would probably take 1-2 more years) than those last two years would make Thabo a steal...
