OKC trades for Maynor and Harpring

Per Wiretap: Oklahoma City Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti announced today that the team has acquired guard Eric Maynor from the Utah Jazz in exchange for the draft rights to Peter Fehse. To consummate the transaction the Thunder also assumes the contract of forward Matt Harpring. Harpring will not report to Oklahoma City. “We are pleased to add Eric Maynor to our organization,” said Presti. “Eric possesses a work ethic and team first mentality that we feel will help us in our continued growth.”

Why won't Harpring be reporting? Please don't tell me we are buying him out because there won't be an opportunity in the future to move his contract just like Watson's

I haven't been all that observant, but the Livingston waiver really caught my attention. Was he not productive?

Good news is you guys get Maynor, who should really solidify the backcourt off the bench if he gets the opportunity.

But his contract is still tradeable right?

Harpring's contract is mostly covered by insurance, and yes we can trade him again by the deadline.

This is a good deal. Shaun Livingston was a good story but he was horrible, Wilks was awful, and Weaver is out for months. Eric Maynor has been playing well for Utah, he can be a great backup for us.

cant say I agree about Livingston, slick. I thought he held his own in there. He couldnt shoot, but did everything else fairly well. I was just saying the other day how glad I was we had him. I was shocked to hear we let him walk.

But Maynor has a great upside. Couldnt be happier that we got him. Should challenge Westbrook for minutes and work well with Harden off the bench.

He was shooting 31% and his A:TO was worse than Russ Westbrook's. I think Shaun was alright on defense but was not doing anything on offense...

Great pickup for you guys. Maynor's a solid young PG, who's gonna give you guys solid minutes on a cheap contract.

And he is probably the best "Point Guard" on the team when it comes to playmaking.

I really love this deal. It's too bad Shaun didn't work out but this is a very good deal for the Thunder.

Taking on Harpring's contract in no way means that we are looking for a bigger trade. We already had extra cap space to take on a bigger contract, thats how we were able to take on Maynor and Harpring and wave two players, without trading away any contracts

I am hoping we use Matt Harpring and/or Etan Thomas and a combination of draft picks to get a legitimate center.

Great move...

I was in here a week ago and suggested that you move now to try and get Bynum from the Lakers now...to be really dangerous quickly!
Now with the move to get Maynor I think he is a better fit for your team then Rusell Westbrook is.

Now what I would do if I was OKC GM is move Russell Westbrook to the Lakers as I suggested and see if they will let you have Andrew Bynum who if Jackson stays in LA, surely Bynum will not resign there if he can help it.
Hey no knock on Westbrook. In fact I love the guy's game. I would trade Jennings for him actually. So this is no knock on him. But Durant, Harden, and Green much less Bynum needs a true point guard not a combo guard like Westbrook.
Eric Maynor is a great pickup for your squad. I don't know if you will have money to pay Durant, Green, Harden and Bynum, but you should. But worry about that later! Perhaps things will level off after the new CBA?

There is your dynasty right there! You in my book will have past Portland in that next tier because of it.

Maynor is a stud, you guys are really going to enjoy him. If he had to go at least he going to you guys and not someone like Denver, LA, NY or Houston. Love your team, love Maynor. Should be fun to watch.

Matt Harpring salary: $6,500,000 80% covered by insurance since he can't play this year due to injuries

So:
20% of Harpring 09-10 salary = $1,300,000
Maynor 09-10 salary = $1,318,920
Luxury Tax payment for Harpring + Maynor = $7,818,920
Total savings after this deal: $10,437,840

Got this fro Utah board....

Great trade for you OKC

Well now we have 14.5 million of expiring contracts between Harpring and Thomas. I really like the 9-man rotation going on right now with Harden, Imblaka, Collison, and not Maynor coming off the bench. I think a move for a legit PF like a Bosh or a David Lee is now in order. We can move Green to coming off the bench in Collison's role.

If that trade does not pan out this year then we can start right over since the player will basically be a rent-a-player. Good move Thunder!
