Alain Bernard screwed it up for the French! Phelps wasn't even the best swimmer in that relay it was the US's final swimmer. The world record was SHATTERED.

and it was not like Bernard had a slow 100m, he swam within 47 sec. But Jason swam an inhuman 46.06 :o :o :o I still cannot believe a man can swim 100m in barely 46 sec.

I think the U.S. will prevail. It's only been two days and now going into 3. Plenty of time for the U.S. to catch up.

Chinese team is really struggling. They should have got 9 gold by now if they performed on par. So I guess so far it is in favor of US.

Canada is having a rough time of it, i think during the parade of nations it said Canada had about 350 athletes at the games, you'd think they'd get some medals :dontknow:

They will get... but it will prolly be sub 10 or around there.... We just dont have the funds to compete on an international level for summer games...... but its no suprise really. Canada will be extremely competitive in Vancouver 2010 Olympics, as they have put decent funding towards the "Own the Podium" Campaign. But the Winter Olympics dwindles in comparison to the Summer Olympics

I'm sick of our atheletes being 6th, 7th and never favoured to win in anything. It's about time we got some real funding, doing well in just the winter games isn't good enough anymore. It's frustrating to watch us get killed everytime, you'd think with so many poor performances we could get at least SOME of our programs into elite status but that hasn't happened. We are breaking Canadian records but who cares when the rest of the world is doing the same but even moreso? Gawd i just want a medal so bad right now.

The United States is catching up and golds and taking a bigger overall medal lead.

I wish I could find a day by day medal count for Athens because I swear the US was down in golds early on also.
