No LeBron, Curry, Davis, Westbrook, Harden, Kawhi, CP3, LMA, Lillard. That's arguably 9 of the top 15 players in the entire world. I'm not saying this team isn't talented, but they could also be way more talented. There's no question about that. There's a lot of players I left off that list as well and in 2020 there will be more stars in their prime that are still young now. That team could easily be better in 2020 talent-wise than this team if everyone plays.

This game also proved that if the U.S. doesn't try that they can get beat and that just "showing up" isn't enough no matter how much the talent discrepancy is between the U.S. and any other team.

This game was close to the end. "Talent" is just some arbitrary thing, you win on the court not on your paycheck. USA won because of depth, not supreme talent.

As I wrote yesterday, US team would be better with some more team oriented second tier players like Kevin Love, Hayward, Parsons.

not made to play 80 games against top notch athletes playing at an inflated pace due to the rules in place. He´s a very good basketball player and a decent-good NBA player.

He dominated against an all star team? Should't that tell you something more than being a backup point guard?

No it's really not. If you put the best talents to their best use, no other team in the world would come close to this team. Talent matters. Effort also matters. The game was close but the U.S. didn't play well at all. If the U.S. plays well, the game isn't close. My point is that the effort was not there, especially on the defensive end.

The NBA is a different game. Just doing well in one game against a team that didn't really try much on defense isn't a reason for why he should suddenly be a starting PG. He could earn that easily anyway but just playing well in the NBA. One game doesn't win you an audition to be a starting PG. You earn that in practice and in games over time. He has had plenty of opportunity to do that and will continue to.

Only if the U.S. plays like this which again wasn't all the result of Australia's play. The U.S. was pathetic on defense.

There is no chance the US plays like that again, this is the game they needed after crushing two teams to really focus. I just hope we get to the gold medal game.

Ya I have to agree. There have been several international players that have had some crazy performances against the US (Arroyo, Jasikevicius, Greek baby shaq, etc.) but never made any noise in the NBA.

Australia has to be a favorite for the gold medal game. Either them, or Argentina.

yeah he struggled a lot in the second half which is a big concern. We've really got 3 players shouldering a lot of the load. Could wear down toward back end of tournament.

What's the deal with Kyrie? I'm assuming he was born in Australia. Does he hold citizenship with that country?
