Serious respect to the Boomers! Always fun to watch FIBA Melo as well.

The U.S. will hopefully realize that there are teams who are not just going to go away because of the fact that they are NBA players. Loved this performance from Australia!

Shows that when the emphasis is on good basketball over entertainment the fans are more entertained. Both teams played hard.

Not sure what you were watching but the U.S. really didn't play that hard as a team. That was the reason why they put themselves in the position that they did in the 2nd half.

Yes, he was born in Melbourne and on contention to play for Australia in the 2012 Olympics. He chose not to, though.

I'm not trying to troll, but I'm not sure NBA qualifies as basketball with how different the rules are. Basketball allows 2 steps not 3, basketball allows you dribble on the side of the ball not under, basketball allows center in the paint on defense, basketball doesn't call te game vastly different for star players.

NBA really need to tighten up.

not made to play 80 games against top notch athletes playing at an inflated pace due to the rules in place. He´s a very good basketball player and a decent-good NBA player.

He dominated against an all star team? Should't that tell you something more than being a backup point guard?

did you really read my post ? The NBA schedule and style of play is too physically demanding to think he could realistically be a 35 minute player. There are also a ton of things he does exceptionally well that are a non-factor in the NBA (like moving off the ball, hand-offs, moving the ball into the midrange area strategically). He´s not fast enough or strong enough to consistently get to the basket in the NBA, so he is kinda limited to being a passer and a shooter off the ball. Internationally, even against the US, there are much more opportunities to free him up to get to the FT-line extended and then pass the ball to the wing or a cutter.

Perhaps, but that's on the NBA having strange rules. The FIBA rules are real basketball and you don't have to go back further than the 90s to find virtually identical rules. Australia barely played zone D btw.

Yeah I said that earlier in the thread, I think we'd have much better parity if the rules were more balanced and FIBA like. The NBA style is hard to watch at times.

This game also proved that if the U.S. doesn't try that they can get beat and that just "showing up" isn't enough no matter how much the talent discrepancy is between the U.S. and any other team.

They didn't lose so wouldn't the more accurate adage be that if they don't try the game will be close but they'll still probably win?

This. Guys like Derozan, Barnes, DJ, and maybe even Cousins and Lowry really have no business being on a "dream team". They are low-impact and/or inefficient players without elite skills or athleticism. They are fine as 1st or 2nd options on mediocre NBA teams, but they have no place on an elite team where they need to play a role efficiently.

Also, 3 GSW players are getting big minutes on this team, and they flat-out sucked tonight.

Durant + Dray + Klay COMBINED for:
27 pts
8 - 30 FGs (wow)
5 - 14 3pt FG
11 reb
4 asst
2 stl
1 blk

That's 3 players with big minutes each giving you an average of: 9pts, 4reb, 1 asst, 1 stl+blk on 27%FG. Terrible.

Good point.

No wonder the Aussies are so tough. Every bit of flora and fauna on that continent could possibly kill you if given the chance!

they played hard, they just didn't play smart. Didn't move the ball enough was the biggest issue on O, on D they need to be in sync with each other against more experienced teams.

Offensively, we can play good team basketball, but too often enjoy quick triggers and poor shots after just one pass.

Australia played great defence. They switched and closed hard on USA shooters. Melo got open a few times and credit to him he nailed his shots.

On the other end Lemanis (our coach) has excellent offensive schemes and we've been easily the second best offence after the USA this tournament. Our passing game is second to none with Delly averaging 11 assists per game, Bogut and Ingles are excellent passers. I haven't fully checked but I reckon Australia is leading the tourney in assists. Mills might well be leading the tournament in scoring too if I'm not mistaken.

C'mon mate, give credit where credit is due, Australia played well.

Cousins is letting him get destroyed. We all know Cousins is better by a mile when both players are healthy.

Sorry I had to come on just to say.... this is one of the most stupid things I've ever read.

Anyone who has been alive in the last 5 years and has seen even more than 5 mins of a Warriors V Kings game... knows that Bogut is completely and utterly in Cousins head. Cousins is literally the definition of Bogut's bitch.

Well, they needed some big shots by two players who were hot tonight. In another game, some of those shots may not go down and they lose. They got outplayed even though they won and it was because more than half the team didn't show up to play, especially on defense.

I don't think they can afford to do that again against some of these other really talented teams and also expect to win.
