But she's still a top tier medal threat in a weak event for the US. It's not like it's a sprint event where she can be replaced by another top talent.

And it was a race event. Sure, if she didn't finish top 3 fair and square then yeah, you can say she didn't deserve to go.
But not like this.

As I'm typing this, the first american girl Juliette Whittaker barely squeeked by the thousands of a second a berth into the semi finals.
Zero chance she makes the finals.

If you put her against Mu and gave her a 3 seconds head start, Athing would've probably still win.

Damn I missed that. I'll catch up but did Nia Akins make it? What about Allie? I think that's her name...I saw her in a diamond league race after the trials where she looked good but she did not look good against other countries' stars in the diamond league a few weeks ago.

Akins did, Allie Wilson didn't. 6th in the heats.

Akins the only one who has a shot to make the finals.

Akins looked really good in trials. I think she has a chance. Probably not a medal but she seems to rise to the occasion over the last couple years. I just watched Allie Wilson run in the Repechage and miss out on time by a few hundreths of a second, but she had no chance.

noah lyles is cringe

Lyles is cringe, though it's funny. Bolt told him to be animated, that the sport needed it. The main thing that bothers me is the sticking out of his tongue. So goofy.

I really like Bednarek, Kerley and Coleman in the 100. Then I also like Rai Benjamin and Grant Holloway a lot.

But the women are much more exciting with Sha'Carri, Sydney, Gabby and Masai. Even others like McKenzie Long and Brittany Brown in the 200. I think Melissa Jefferson can maybe medal too. TT is a long shot.

Shelley Ann Frasier Price will have something to say about it though. She has always been a favorite of mine and is one of the best ever. She came up with Bolt...she is still doing it at near 40 years old.

Sha'Carri is lucky Shericka Jackson pulled out. Gabby Thomas not so lucky she is still doing the 200. Not sure who is the favorite between Gabby and Shericka. But all 3 Americans should be solid in the 200.

The 400 women's hurdles should be great too. Sydney may dominate though...she is a Bolt level athlete.

Nothing wrong with being animated. Lyles just doesn't have Bolt's natural charisma. Bolt's charisma is very smooth and affable while being justifiably cocky. It's a strange mix that just works. Where Lyles comes off as a young kid trying to act like what poorly written movie character charisma comes across.

But Lyles has a great story when you take away his not so great charisma attempts, imo.

100% agreed the women are much, much more exciting though. Both the US women and the women overall.

Looking forward to how Kishane Thompson performs tomorrow after looking so effortless in the heats.

I have him winning, that 9.77 in the Jamaican Championships was something else but of course, doing it on the olympic stage is completely different

I wouldn't count out Kerley or Bednarek winning the 100 either. They had the 2 fastest times today and both were right with Lyles at the trials. Bednarek always is ahead of Lyles until the very end and gets taken over...I've been waiting for him to beat him. Kerley was also the best last olympics and really is the polar opposite of Lyles...Lyles does the talking while Kerley says pretty much nothing and says he will show it on the track.

Trial times:

Also, Lyles best event is the 200, though Kung Fu Kenny is right there with him on that one too.

Team USA putting the C team in when other countries put their top people in is a big fail. Cant get run down like that.

USA managed to lose the gold medal in the 4x400 mixed relay exactly the same as in Tokyo.

Femke Bol with a terrific comeback. I know they beat the World Record yesterday, but ALWAYS go for your best team.
Or at least the second best.

They let a 19 yr old kid from college anchor this.

At this rate they're gonna lose the overall medal standings, just too many silvers who should have been golds.

Femke Bol ran a 47.93 400m split. I talked about that in a previous post about Sydney McLaughlin that most of your sub 48 400m relay splits by female sprinters were like Eastern Europe/cold war. That's an insanely good split.

The US did not send their best and they lost as a result. Nobody on the US team was fastest in their spot.

**** the fastest. None of the participants made the individual team in their event. Meaning top 3.

Shamier Little is a hurdler and she didn't make the top 3 in her event at the trials.

You only needed 2 boys and girls, there were so many options out there. They got cocky for the 2nd Olympics in a row, Poland won in Tokyo the same way. Maybe they learn their lesson for LA in 28'.

It's raining like crazy. I have a bad feeling about Sha'carri, I hope I'm wrong.

In basketball terms, she has 3 freethrows and she only needs to make one to win the game. Heavy heavy favorite with that lineup.

Very disappointing team USA. They choke again, just like 3 years ago. Lyles didn't look great either.

Murphy's law 1000x. Worst Olympics I ever witnessed from the USA team overall, even worse than 2008 in which the chinese dominated the medal standings.

Will probably not get 25 golds overall.

Bad starts will do our sprinters in. Then again another USA trained athlete winning in the Olympics.

We have failed ourselves in these Olympics.

We need to lay off the social media and get back to the basics.

I don't get this tbh.

Both she and Lyles. Dude, you're small as ****, you're not Fahnbulleh or Shericka Jackson size.

How do you manage to start so **** slow everytime? It defies any logic. Smaller athletes have almost always had a good start, it was a problem with the finishing speed as they got caught in the end by the more massive athletes with the better finish.

I'm talking about Coleman here. Bingtian Su. Many others.
