It'll suck.

I mean we're not very good at stuff like this, but also we're following Beijing.

That's how Canada felt with the winter games, impossible to follow Beijing.

I've read that there is some pressure to have a moment of silence in observance of the 40th anniversary of the 1972 Munich killings.

I do think that there should be an observance of that horror; but I do not think that the opening ceremonies are the time or place.

There is nothing more overrated than the opening and closing ceremonies in sporting events. I hate them with a passion. Complete waste of time.

Rogge said they will not have the 1 minute silence.

I love the parade of nations. It's long and boring, but I like seeing people getting their moment of fame. I am also a geography nerd so I try and not miss any of it. When they have opera singers and such, that's when I go pee. Interesting note, 3 new countries will be represented as independant participants, Curacao, Sint Marten and South Sudan.

Will he actually be announced as an athlete from South Sudan? I was wondering about that because I know he will be entering behind the Olympic flag. The parade of nations at the Opening Ceremonies is the only good part.

Amazingly, no one has mentioned my favorite part of these things yet...the cauldron lighting. Always cool to see what athletes and personalities emerge to bring the flame in and how the cauldron is actually lit. From the wall walker in Beijing to the miscue in Vancouver, it all builds up to that.

He will walk with the other independent athletes from the Netherlands Antilles. I am sure his story will be what Bob Costas prattles about as they enter.

I thought that guy who got hurt running and his dad who helped him to the finish line would be cool.

Andy Murray will light a tennis ball on fire, dump it into a net, then scream with rage.

I heard David Beckham is going to have a part in the opening ceremony, maybe kick a soccer ball into the cauldron. My bet would be someone from the royal family, maybe the Queen?

I usually have nothing with those ceremonies, but since my favourite band (Underworld) are musical directors of the opening ceremony, I'll try it this time. dubnobasswithmyheadman!

I love the whole atmosphere, competition and drama of the Olympics. You get exposed to many different kinds of sports you normally wouldn't go out of your way to watch, and maybe get hooked on them or start following athletes as a result.

Really looking forward to the opening ceremonies  :olympics:
