Olympic Park, London (CNN) -- The face of the Olympics is well known the world over: athletes winning, losing, straining every sinew of their bodies in the pursuit of podium glory. But behind the scenes there is another story of the athletes' lives and the use of their bodies, one that centers on their time staying at the Olympic Village.
"Anyone who wants to be naive and say they don't know what's going on in the Village are lying to themselves," one former gold medalist and veteran of two Olympics told CNN of his previous experiences at the Games. "They know, the officials know, even the media. It's not a secret, everyone knows!
"(Sex) is all part of the Olympic spirit. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) wouldn't say that, but it is, you can't shy away from it. Why do you think they give away so many condoms?"

Kobe was spotted watching a game with Aussie swimmer Stephanie Rice, who isn't bad looking.

I remember reading an article about this during Beijing - once peoples' events or done, it basically becomes one big orgy. They also talked about how the athletes' pulling abilities were directly affected by their competition success.
Phelps must have had one hell of a time once the swimming was over.

There are 10,960 athletes participating in the London Olympics. 6098 are men and 4862 are women. That breaks down to approximately 6 condoms per participant or 11.5 condoms a man.

Yeah, but don't forget how many of those participants are 15 or 16 or others that are married (with their spouses also in Olympic Village). That definitely ups the per person number.

Well, I was living in Canada during the Beijing Olympics, and it was in the Canadian media.

It's a shame baseball isn't an olympic sport. They could have a baseball player and a swimmer have sex without a condom, have her get pregnant, move to Hawaii and have a child who grows up to be a gold medalist in the 200 meter individual medley.

I imagine a big part of it is a group of athletes who just take turns getting busy with each other. Who can blame them. These people train year around, and after they compete what else are you going to do??? Your choices are go home or stick around. Bode Miller said he went to Torino in 06 specifically to party.
And if Kobe is dumb enough to hook up(again) publicly while going through a divorce in which no pre-nup was signed I'm just going to laugh when he's taken to the cleaner.

I believe they were issued with 150,000 condoms, which equates to 2 condoms per couple per night.
Also lots of anonymous reports by athletes that verify the the topic title - confessions of cheating on partners/fiancee's etc.

I was a volunteer in Barcelona 92, in the village, and was being hit on a dayly basis by girls and guys (but i was 16, nerdy and shy AKA stupid, is a shame experience comes always late
) those are 10 thousand athletes in his athletic prime, on a trip, almost all of them young and good looking, i dont see a problem here, Federer and his wife meet in olympics for example!
