General Olympic Sports Thread

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Fri Aug 12, 2016 4:03 am

For all of those sports out there who don't have a thread of their own.

How about Simone Biles and Aly Raisman for the United States in women's gymnastics?

And I'm glad to see Aliya Mustafina bring home the Bronze for Russia following all of the scandal that country has dealt with these past several months.

I really loved seeing Simone Manuel - an H-Town native - scoring the Gold Medal in a TIE with Canada's Penny Olaksiak in the 100m Women's Freestyle.

Normally, I hate ties in sports. It is one of the things that keeps me from really embracing Soccer & Hockey. But for something like this - an actual race with an actual finish with the exact same result is quite amazing! Both women finished at 52.70 seconds. That's just uncanny!

Just ventured into this thread to say that I was so glad to see Simone Manuel win. That was probably the most satisfying moment for me so far.

Val Adams, Steven's sister, won silver in women's shot put. She won the previous 2 Olympic gold medals, but was beaten on the last throw by a US woman.

OMFG van Niekerk.

That was one of the most impressive things I've ever seen in sports.

Way too many controvercy this year regarding the refereeing in boxing and wrestling. At least 3 medals were cheated off from the clearly better player. These 2 events need clear rehauls. Some refs were suspended in boxing. Doesn't make it fair, still.
