I suggest checking out some of these videos to familiarize yourself with the USA competitors and contenders. Some great participants and personalities. Some superstar females like Sydney McLaughlin-LeVrone, Gabby Thomas and Sha-Carri Richardson. Sydney has already dominated events and set world records...crushing them repeatedly. Rai Benjamin crushed a world record the last olympics....butso did a Norwegian racer, Karsten Warholm...who won? Video below..
You just need to watch the last 500 yards that starts around 1:30 in the video. This race was good at the end. Parker Valby, the NCAA champ this year, very young, lead pretty much the whole race. She will be a beast in the future.
Rai Benjamin - 46.46 - crushed the World Record in Tokyo but unfortunately he still lost to another guy who crushed it more - Karsten Warholm of Norway - so Paris is the rematch
Kind of sucks Sydney McLaughlin is not doing this…she’d win for sure.
400 Meter - Men
Spoiler:
Quincy Wilson who is only 16 years old will possibly be on relay team. He has set the World Record for under 18 time. He has an awesome kick the last 100m here…it was good on this video but I’ve seen him make up some crazy ground in other races (lane 2 here)

I hadn't really into I watched the Netflix documentary "Sprint" and I got so interested in it that I went and watched all the olympic trials on Peacock. Really entertaining.

I watch more Track and Field than Basketball. Been at it for 20 years.
Huge Rai Benjamin fan, I really REALLY hope he gets to win one. He's the most talented and fast 400m hurdler but he always came up short when it mattered.
Sydney is in a different league than anyone else, at this point I'm disappointed she didn't go for 400 m flat. Maybe even the 200/400 double.
Femke Bol has been good and lots of people(european) started talking smack. She's clearly inferior though and Sydney couldn't resist smacking that ass one more time before she goes for the flat full time.
Also what happened in the 800 m women at the trials is a shamockery. USA because of it's stupid rule will lose a possible gold medal.
When your Olympic Champ and clearly a top 2 gal in the world in the event(Keely Hodgkinson being the other) falls down in a race event... I couldn't give a crap if she's not in the top 3 because of it, you send her to Paris. None of the other three who qualified will even make the Olympic final.
Also there's a 16 yr old kid who will run in the 4x400 m. He was pretty close of making the team in the individual event which is mind boggling. He ran a 44.2 after the trials which would've been enough to qualify if he did that a week earlier.
Quincy Wilson is the name, one to remember.

Sydney's US trials times were kinda nuts. Her 400m hurdles times were not even that far off the best 400m flat US runners at the trials and the last time she ran a 400m flat was a few weeks before the US trials and she had the fastest time in the world this year. (Altho Nickisha Pryce of Jamaica then ran a faster 400m last month)
She has 2 of the 3 fastest 400m flat times for a US female runner ever and she has never even focused on it.
At the Olympic trials she broke her own world record with a 50.65 400m hurdle. The fastest 400m flat women went 49.46/49.71/49.78 So she's within a second of the 2nd fastest 400m US woman despite running her race WITH HURDLES.
None of the 400m women sprinters on the US are even close to what she can do... but she's pretty much guaranteed to win at 400m hurdles if that's what she sticks at. So it's like risk vs reward I guess? There's definitely more competition if she went to 400m flat.
When she's done 4x400m she's put up some splits in the 47.xx's which is insane. Almost all of the female runners who put up splits like that were in the "Eastern Europe" era which many look back and wonder about artificial help since none have been able to duplicate them and many have countries have since been revealed to have had state-sponsored and meticulously run doping programs.

Yeah, I really wish Sydney was running the 400. Doesn't she hold the World Record in that? She could probably do well in the 200 and 100 as well. Gabby Thomas as well...but not like Sydney.
The 800 was a travesty. How unfortunate. She will probably change to start running from the front. When it's so bunched up like that, it's dangerous. Nia Akins was impressive though. I hope she does well.
And yes, I really hope Rai Benjamin can beat Karsten Warholm this time around.

I also meant earlier to post a video of this Sydney McLaughlin race (also with Femke Bol and Delilah Muhammad) from the World Championships....the 3 of them hold like the 20 fastest times ever, all in the last few years, which is crazy considering the previous world record before Muhammad broke it in 2019 lasted for 16 years.

Track is so stacked this cycle, so many good events. M/W 100 and 200, both 400 Hurdles. 1500 Mens should all be insane.
Re. Athing Mu, she always runs such silly races that it was bound to bite her in the ass. When you are the clear class of the field you should run like it and get to the front. She got cute at the trials and paid the price. Should she have made the team anyway probably but its hard for me to feel too bad for her cause you have to produce the results on the track and she didnt do that because she ran a goofy race.

Yeah, I was really disappointed she isn't running in the 400. She could be/is one of the best olympians all time. But at the same time, when I thought more about it, I know the 400 (and by extension, the hurdles) is one of the toughest races, so if you have to do heats, semis and a final for both events, that's a lot. I think she could easily still take gold in both though.
I wonder how she'd place in the 200 if she tried it.
I'm kind of interested in the women races more than the men. I just found them more interesting at trials. The mens hurdles, Holloway and Rai each are so far ahead of their US competition, that I don't know if Holloway will have trouble winning. But of courses Rai has to go against Karsten.
I am curious out of the US runners if Noah takes it again. Kenny and Kerley are really right behind him. They should kill in the relay though with Christian Coleman starting off...kind of sucked for him he missed the 100 and 200 by a hair in each.

Women's 100 meter hurdles is stacked too. The American trials were crazy. It might be between all Americans for the golds though. Watch this race in the trials..felt bad for Tonea Marshall who looked great at 80 meters.
Alaysha (Lay Lay) Johnson has a good chance here as well.

Well yeah, of course if they **** up the baton, it's over.
I worry if they have Quincy Wilson run a leg in the 4x400 (he is eligible from what I know), that he could have trouble with the baton, but I guess he's done it before. Probably just has a lot smaller hands, being 16.

All of the new ones are Mondo, they usually get the best stuff for the Olympics.
And you just look at the times. Vernon Norwood ran a 43.99 in the first leg, which he never did anywhere and he's 32-33. I don't think he ever cracked 44.2 in the 400m. The latter legs have head starts so you need to take the times with a grain of salt but the first one is legit, from the blocks.
I mean they smashed the WR by more than a second which is a lot. Mixed relay is a relatively new event but still been around for 6-7 years.
Also some of the top girls jogged to a 10.8-10.9 into a head wind in the 100 m prelims.

Athing Mu’s career is imploding. She barely ever races, and not when she does, she doesn’t know how to position herself to avoid trouble. I think she’s starting to become somewhat of a head case, and since she’s joined Kersee’s training group, it’s been downhill since.
Even if she didn’t go down in that trials race, I don’t think she’s confident or sharp enough to beat Keely or Maraa. They are just far more seasoned at this point.
I know some fans are upset at the U.S. trials process. But Mu put herself in a terrible position in that race, and actually tripped herself. She didn’t deserve to go.

Keely already beat her last year. She had problems with injuries and yeah, Gold would've been a stretch.
But she's still a top tier medal threat in a weak event for the US. It's not like it's a sprint event where she can be replaced by another top talent.
And it was a race event. Sure, if she didn't finish top 3 fair and square then yeah, you can say she didn't deserve to go. But not like this.
As I'm typing this, the first american girl Juliette Whittaker barely squeeked by the thousands of a second a berth into the semi finals. Zero chance she makes the finals.
If you put her against Mu and gave her a 3 seconds head start, Athing would've probably still win.
