Frenchman fires up U.S. relay team

Post#1 » by Posey H8er » Sat Aug 9, 2008 1:32 am

BEIJING – The last thing in the world the United States needed was a kick in the rear of their LZR Racer Speedos. And yet, sometimes the spirit of competition delivers fortuitous luxuries anyway.

“The Americans? We’re going to smash them. That’s what we came here for.”

The we in that statement is the French men’s 4x100 freestyle relay team. And the who making the proclamation was Frenchman Alain Bernard, who holds the current world record in the 100-meter freestyle. And the statement? Well, somewhere U.S. Swimming head coach Mark Schubert is buying a bottle of wine for Bernard, who just gave Schubert’s team the perfect gift only two days before the start of competition.

Motivation.

While the U.S. men’s team undoubtedly had it going into these Beijing Games, it was only a few months ago that Schubert was seemingly worried about success going to the heads of his men’s team. Since the 2007 world championships, there were whispers that this might be the best American men’s team ever. And that after the Beijing Games, it might be known as the best collection of men’s swimmers in Olympic history.

Go USA! Beat those little Frenchies silly!

I'm looking forward for the gold medal game tomorrow.
because the US looked great out there, and if I understood , witheout their best squad.
however, the French team was also witheout it's best guys, so all I can say is the best will win tomorrow.. :)
And I heard other teams are really good also.

It will take swimming under the current world record to just win bronze.

My Predicted Order:
France
US
Ausralia
Italy
Sweden
South Africa
Canada
Great Britian

With South Africa as a wild card if they come to play.
Once again stupid decision by Canadian Brent Hyden to pull out of his 200m Free

I'm glad Cowology enjoyed it. Once he enjoys something, we know it has to be good.

It was a victory in a dramatic fashion. During the last leg, I was going crazy cause we were behind but than our guy (whatever his name is) closed down at the end and I was still not sure who won. Frenchies **** lose again. If you can't back up your trash talk, STFU next time.
First the federal government borrowed money; then gave the money to Bank of America; then I borrowed some of that money from Bank of America and gave it to the federal government; then the federal government gave the money back to Bank of America.

That's what I love about the U.S. team. They use the trash talk to motivate themselves, and they don't trash talk back.

Thats better then what they did for the Sydney 2000 Games. They stated they would smash they Australians like Guitars.... Aussie went on to win with Gold with a WR by (in the 1st 100m by Micheal Klim) and an overall WR in the 4X100m relay, in a time that wouldnt have been top 6 this year.

So not only did Bernard talk trash and lose, he lost the gold by choking on his last lap and lost his individual world record in the same race!

Man, that's gotta hurt...

yeah, it was pretty amazing how the US won it in the last 5-10 meters. it seems like there is no way phelps won't win the 8 and not only have the most golds in one olympics but the most overall ever.

Talking trash before you actually compete is just stupid and this is why. The look on Bernard's face was priceless. He definately looked humbled on the podium.
