I don't want to take anything away from Michael Phelps. He's dominating the competition, and seems unstoppable.

But could it be possible that he's taking some substance that hasn't been discovered/banned yet. It's just unreal for somebody to be that dominant and not have any added "help"

Look at McGwire and then Bonds in baseball...They were crushing the ball like no one has ever before. It was unreal at the time as well. All of a sudden, years after they broke there homerun records, the HGH scandal appeared.

Phelps was also dominating in Athens, and he's been the best swimmer in America for the past 6+ years. I do not think he is juicing. He is just a phenomenal athlete and competitor. Enjoy his accomplishments.

Yeah. They NBC did a piece right before his first medal swim about a program that has taken all of the top American athletes and tests them incredibly frequently. These tests aren't just regular urine or blood tests, they're the most extensive (and expensive) trials that science can provide, and they happen 3-4 times a week, IIRC. Phelps was also the first athlete to volunteer to enter this program, so he could prove he was doing this clean.

So the odds of him actually getting away with juicing is slim to none.

well, of course you can think of it, but i don't think so, he looks exactly like the rest of the swimmers and yes he was also pretty dominant 4 years ago.

It is sad that this question has to be asked.

No I don't think he does. I hope he doesn't. He is one of my favorite athletes out there right now.

He's one of everybody's favorite athletes right now.

There probably are a lot of athletes that are using substances, but I don't think Phelps is one of them. He's just a result of talent and a lot of hard work.

That French guy, Alain Bernard, on the other hand, looks suspicious. Look for a picture of him from six months ago and the most recent picture, and you'll see the difference.

Agreed. The question isn't "Does Phelps juice?" It's "Should we juice Phelps?"

I watched a special on him, and he works really really hard.
He said that he doesnt even know what day/date it is usually because all he does is swim.

He's of course physically gifted too.

I understand he's a hard worker, and I think the fact the question is even asked is actually a compliment to him as he's so dominating.

But could it be possible that he's using a substance that is unknown to be a performance enhancing drug? As well as not tested for in the regular drug tests he takes? Maybe a mix of things who knows.

Maybe Phelps is taking the same stuff that Dara Torres is.

Seriously though, I would find it hard to believe he would be that stupid to do drugs with so much on the line. After what Marion Jones went through, going clean is the best way to go.

a foreign substance would still show up in his blood work and drug testing that would raise questions. Nothing has, so no, he's not juicing. He's one of the most extensively tested people in the world, and if he were using any substances, they'd show up, even if they weren't banned they'd raise questions about them.

Not to mention he won 6 golds in 2004, so it's not like he's exploded out of nowhere.

And you would think, a person of his stature, the other countries probably asked this question a billion times.

I bet France is still wondering.

He is NOT doping. He would've been caught otherwise. But maybe he has a secret energy drink that works wonder and nobody else knows. As long as it is not on the blacklist, you can still use it.
