BEIJING – Ryan Lochte is giving chase to Michael Phelps in the water and Morgan Spurlock out of it. On Friday, after medaling in two individual events in less than 30 minutes, Lochte said the food he used as fuel is McDonald’s.
“Nutrition’s probably the last thing I worry about,” Lochte said. “It’s probably my downfall. I’ve been eating McDonald’s almost every meal here.”
Spurlock, an independent filmmaker, ate every meal at McDonald’s for 30 days for a 2004 documentary and gained 24 pounds. The 23-year-old Lochte has been dining at the fast-food haven, an Olympics sponsor, for 11 days and has gained four medals – two golds and two bronzes.
These swimmers don't seem to care what they eat at all. Phelps doesn't eat every meal at McDonalds, but he doesn't watch calories or fat, and pretty much eats as much as he can.
---------Update
Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt prepared for the men's 100-meter final by waking up about 11 a.m. He watched TV for a while in his room at the Athletes' Village, then went downstairs and ate some chicken nuggets at McDonald's. He returned to his room, took a three-hour nap, woke up and ate some more chicken nuggets.
Haha, Bolt seems so nonchalant about the Olympics. He slept most of the day, and woke up only to eat Chicken McNuggets. But that makes 2 Olympic athletes now powered by McDonalds. Maybe it's the new breakfast of champions?
