I'm going to go ahead and pick the steal of the draft.

Nate Thurmond

5-time All-Defensive team selection, and would have many more if the award was given out earlier. Could absolutely translate to today's game physically.

I choose you, Dikembe Mutombo.

Also, how the hell is Nate Thurmond not LeBron's dad.

Im not sure a post up C who shoots 42% is a steal. Very good on defense but his offense is horrible. The steal of the draft IMHO is still on the board.

Wait, is Gasol still available? Might want to offer Revis him since he chose with the impression Gasol was gone. And is it Portland Sabonis or mythical Sabonis?

Well it's his call which version he uses but the whole point of debate was, in essence "Is Euro Sabonis available?" The pick was predicated on his being available, and it has now twice been stated that he is; just now, and in the initial thread
giordunk wrote:I don't know what you guys think about this [poster's note: nobody fed back on this], but I'll just leave the pool of players open to anyone who has ever played basketball. That includes Sabonis and Schmidt, even yourself. You can only draft based on their existing body of work, and it's really up to you to sell your team to the voters. The restriction again is none of the top 12.

So would expect the pick to be pre-NBA Sabas.

Hard to get an impression that is (known to be) entirely disinterested but I'd say ...

No. In part because as noted above the creator had stated Sabonis was eligible, but primarily because if you allow one person to change their pick you then have to allow every following voter to do the same.

That said I wouldn't object to it at all, it just isn't how I'd interpret the "rules" of the situation.

No, you are right. It's in the original rules that I read and forgot. That's good enough for me. It would only have affected Revis at any rate since he was the only one who picked with the impression Gasol was gone. But since giordunk clarified initially, it's moot, so onwards to the next pick.

It is (seemingly, we may yet get further clarification from giordunk) moot, but to clarify, if he had (does?) wanted to switch his his pick to Gasol, that would then free up Gilmore, who others might have picked (and if they did so they take someone else off the board, and put someone else back onto it). It's a domino effect which affects every subsequent pick and would therefore require resuming the draft from that point.

So I'm in. I'm gonna take the ideal second offensive piece for my attack, who also happens to be a great defender.

I take Manu Ginóbili.

Very nice pick; I was strongly considering him next. Especially if we're going just best 3-year window; he was a beast in early-mid 80's.

Yeah he's a great fit in these peak games, only issue is a lack of 3pt shooting but there's enough shooters out there to get around that.

Damn - Zo, West and Sid is a pretty amazing defensive squad. :o

Still not as good as my team, on the defensive end, though. 8-)

I'm going to stick with the Hall-of-Famer and all-time NBA FG% leader.

And I love Sabbas. I kind of wish it had been clarified that we could select years that didn't happen in the NBA or ABA. Think Sab would have been a first round pick in that case.

Oh well.

I'm gonna have to go with Ray Allen. Amazing efficiency, clutch playoff performer. Scored on very respectable volume in his younger years. And let's be serious, what basketball fan doesn't love Ray Allen?!

Aha. Was hoping against hope that he was going to fall to me, and here he is: The Worm in all his glory.

Image

Dennis Rodman is the perfect complement to my current core. 2-time Defensive Player of the Year, the best post-merger rebounder ever, and a much needed injection of grit and toughness.

Rodman can guard all 5 positions defensively, making him uniquely poised to anchor a defense from the forward slot. He's the perfect complement to Nash and Stoudemire, a totally unselfish offensive player who reveled in the dirty work that often went undone in Phoenix. He fills in literally every gap on my team, and his underrated outlet passing (and passing in general) will serve an important part in my offense. Love Rodman, and he's just the right amount of crazy I need.

BTW- Warspite, is this the "steal of the draft" you keep referring to? I honestly can't believe he made it this long, insane value in round 3.

Aha. He was who I thought people might hesitate over as a third option since he doesn't score (Jordan isn't walking through that door). He is such a mismatch though that one can't help but to love him. I do wonder which years you will be picking, Pistons Rodman or Bulls Rodman.
