no he hasn't. A little hint. He retired as the NBA all time scorer and rebounder.

Shhhhh. I know who you are talking about. He isn't the greatest fit on my team, but the talent level is ridiculous and it's shocking to me that he is still available. I'm considering taking him next, but leaning more towards a taller, very well-rounded player who fits my team seamlessly.

Agreed, I'm personally having reservations of picking 50's and early 60's players and it looks like our fellow drafters are feeling the same.

That's fine with me. Go ahead and pick a borderline all star and leave all the great HoFers to me. If you think a 13pts 8 rebs today is more impressive than 23pt 15rebs vs KAJ, Wilt, Thurmond and Russell then go ahead.

For big men the lane was last widened in the early 60s but with the exception of the ABA 1979 is the start of the 3pt line. If your going big I see no reason not to scoop up a 60s or 70s HoFer but yes I would be leary of taking a 60s PG who is a 42% shooter.

I wasn't dissing on those early era players, it was more of me having trouble making a case for some of these players because I am not that familiar with the 50's and early 60's NBA.

The guy you are talking about is pretty tall, he would be listed at 6'10'' at least or perhaps 6'11'' in today's nba. Prototypical size for the modern powerforward.

I'm dumb. A little google is all it took to realize how wrong I was. But there is a very, very good player I'm looking at from ab earlier era. Giordunk needs to pick.

I first selected Mookie because with Billups out I REALLY needed him because Manu is probably gonna be my PG and I needed a small guard who can defend the Pauls and Isiahs and shoot 3 pointers on volume on offense. But there still is MVP talent on the board, and about 30-35 high-end all stars, so I'm okay with the pick.
This place is a cesspool of mindless ineptitude, mental decrepitude, and intellectual lassitude. I refuse to be sucked any deeper into this whirlpool of groupthink sewage. My opinions have been expressed. I'm going to go take a shower.

Your team is looking really nice. Intensity of Manu and Mookie guarding guys on the perimeter would be really tough to deal with (Ginobili could go 100% all the time, as he likes to do, because you're going to have a chance to take a quality backup for him...for all positions, really).
Besides, Dirk and Dikembe is an awesome frontcourt.

I'm very surprised that a certain bigman hasn't been selected yet. Very versatile player, and he's not an "ancient" player (totally the opposite), so you don't have to worry how he would fit in with modern players, and he can play both frontcourt positions, which is a nice bonus. Proven playoff performer, too.

I would gladly take him if I didn't have my frontcourt already set.

You know I would select him, but he doesn't improve my team :D

Torn between a number of guys here, but I think I'll go C-Webb.

I swear some of you guys are taking defense way too seriously.

You know, they say "defense wins championships". You have some pretty fair defenders on your team, too. Thurmond is one of the greatest defenders of all-time, Wade and Stockton were All-Defensive caliber in their primes, and even C-Webb wasn't really a major defensive liability (about average, sometimes slightly worse, sometimes slightly better than average).

Yea. But the thing is I think pure defensive value has diminishing marginal value. I don't think an elite defense requires 5 elite defensive players, and some of you guys may be sacrificing a little too much on offense with some of these defensive oriented picks.

Anyway, my time for people to be scared of...

PG - John Stockton
SG - Dwyane Wade
SF -
PF - Chris Webber
C - Nate Thurmond

Most of the defenders that have been picked have either been A) Monsterous irreplaceable defensive forces, or B) Elite defenders who also have an elite or at least very good offensive game.

After a lot of deliberation, I select Pau Gasol. He really fits the mold of what I want from a power forward.

Gary Payton
??
Kevin Durant
Pau Gasol
Artis Gilmore

I'm going for BPA here, and I think high quality wings the caliber of Dr.J are going to be pretty hard to find from here on in.

Can you update the opening posts? It is hard to follow all of the draft picks.

I'll draft the guy who I am pretty sure everyone is alluding too. Give me Bob Pettit!

Parish was a stretch for me since I only saw the Bulls Parish. I used the player comparison board a lot as a crash course in learning about him. Very handy.

Parish is IMO an absolutely safe bet in terms of translating to today's game, but where it really becomes a concern is - what about the 50s and even 60s players? That's when you're really starting to take risks.

Your turn.
