The bottom 6 teams will enter a lottery. The worst team will receive 10 lottery balls. The Second to worst will have 8, then 6, then 4, and the last two will have 2 each.

Again, if it is determined that you are intentionally throwing games (by doing things like dropping productive players, failing to set line ups, etc), you will be asked to leave the league. I think we can all abstain from cheating, right?

I think the right way to go is to have an unweighted system. That eleminates the incentive for tanking. There is no reason to punish the manager ranking 7th who tried hard to make the playoffs but came up short.

Determining who tanks and who doesn't is very subjective and therefore, I think equal lottery chances for teams 7-14 makes for a fair and safe system.

Actually, now that I think about it, the best way to ensure there is no tanking is to reward the 7th best team with the most balls, and then down to the worst team with the least balls.

that's way too linear logic man. Just think it through for a second.

you give the most balls to the 7th team who had a few injuries that year but has a pretty good roster. and then that team gets Wiggins.
and the worst team in the league with the worst record by far ends up with a mediocre rookie.

that method you just posted opens the gap between 'ok' teams and bad teams even more. I don't think that is the way to go. No friggin' way.

A suggestion & more questions

1) In a basketball league that I'm part of, the winner of the consolation bracket gets the first pick and down on to the last placed team. Teams 1-6/8 pick in reverse order of regular season wins/placements. I think that will work for this league as well.

2) What is the use of the the rookie draft? Are we going to use roster spots on them or will we have a d-league kinda thing and promote them based on their playing time? The reason I ask is, we are keeping only 5 from the previous year .. so there is going to be a lot of talent left on board to draft with the auction format. So when are we going to do the rookie draft and will we be losing out on a chance to add a more productive player from the main draft since we drafted an unknown in the rookie draft?

That also opens the chance for teams who acquire draft assets through trade (playoff teams) to milk the system. I've come to the conclusion that tankers gonna tank. No matter the system.

I see the point of the auction format to keep add/drops down during the year, but I wonder if we'll be able to do an auction draft with so many different time zones represented here. For all I know it may work out...What about a regular draft of vets and rookies in the offseason, then make the add/drops be based on salary left as they are now? Just a suggestion, not really a sticking point for me.

Tough choice, almost took a trade offer, but decided to bet on Thad having an even better year on a horrible team.
