Sorry for delayed response. Have been just swamped. Why are doing the draft so early? Can we wait a few weeks for training camp to start? Early drafts increase chances of injury for players in the preseason and camp. No one wants or should be left holding the bag when a top 25 player tears his MCL in the first preseason game. It subjects managers to unnecessary risk which unduly impacts the competitive landscape.

My 2 cents:

1) Serious preseason injuries are so so rare.
2) Predicting that new rising young player Mutombo is gonna get a lot of minutes is one thing, getting news from camp/preseason games and then picking him is another. The latter levels the playing field for everyone, the former involves prediction and analytic skills. For example last year I got McCollum at 104 and there is no way that I would have gotten him after he scored 30 points in a preseason game. Training camp is one thing but I have a huge problem with preseason games.
3) If we wait a few weeks we risk of not finishing the draft before season starts.

Welcome newcomers. Looking forward to defending my title! I may have won last year on a stat correction after the championship was over, but we all know there's no such thing as luck in fantasy sports.. Really though, it just goes to show how competitive this league is, and how important every single point is. Good luck everyone!

Interesting. We had a live draft rather than an offline draft, so none were obviously possible during the draft either.

I suppose in the more tougher leagues, it is more difficult to get the players you are after if you have not already got them through the draft.

Yes, thats sound logic Jim, if its done like that in prev.years dont know the reason for not keeping in the same way.

And no IL in settings? At least one IL spot will be nice, every sport has it and Yahoo finally brought it back for hoops last season after all those years.

I think it is worth the conversation before the Draft starts to consider having an IL spot.

We did a live Draft last year and then had the conversation, and it was deemed that it would have altered manager's draft boards.

Personally I would be for having one IL spot.

Yeah, for me its a no brainer, with 16 teams league FA pool is already fully dead, when injuries start to pile on will be good for all teams to have at least one IL and not to carry "black hole in roster" for month, two or three.

This has been traditionally an early drafting league and also serves as an informal draft guide. Also as sabonis pointed out, it turns into much more luck than skill if it extends into preseason, especially in later rounds. Someone has a great preseason game and if you are lucky to be on the clock at that moment, you draft him. Not much skill involved in that...
