1. Noel isn't a fantasy rookie because he was available to be picked up in Yahoo last season. And we obviously all missed the boat on that.

2. draft picks, and players acquired via draft pick trades, are not required to be named one of 5 keepers. Let's roll.

I trade Klay Thompson to Fran for Demar Derozan. Derozan takes over klays keeper spot

I was thinking about it, and I remember wanting to pick up Noel before the season was over, but he wasn't available. I checked, and he's not actually available. He's on Randy Mo's team (whoever that was). So, if anything, he's either in the FA list, or he's someone's keeper.

Can someone email TK to let him know it's his pick? It's been 24 hours.

To explain my position on the budgets for this year's auction draft, let me present it in bullet points:

1) I always thought I had set up the league so that the budget for free agents during the year rolled forward to our draft/auction budgets. So I said that on the thread a couple of times.

2) I think it was jfrost who pointed out that the rules were in fact not set up that way. Instead, the rules stated, from the inception of the league, that budget from a PRIOR AUCTION/DRAFT would be rolled forward into future drafts. But that there would be a SEPARATE BUDGET FOR FA's during the season.

3) Then, without thinking, I posted that we would roll in our budgets from last year's draft into this year's draft, not remembering that we didn't have an auction draft last year.

4) So I finally clarified that because there was no auction draft last year, all we have is our $100 budgets for this year's pending auction.

That should explain the seemingly conflicting statements I made in this thread. I was merely trying to clear up the confusion, but I think I ended up making even more confusion.

As for timing on the draft, I'm sorry that it bothered people that I never made any kind of an official announcement. I figured we weren't in any real hurry, so I would be safe just kind of unofficially kicking things off. Given that we only need to get through 24 total picks, I wasn't concerned about deadlines, time limits per pick, etc. If things change and we start to really lag, I guess we can institute time limits. But so far, I thought we would be ok to just kind of be chill about things. Let me know if you disagree.

On that note, I don't think we've heard from CFAN yet. Does anyone have his email address so we can contact him and let him know we're doing the rookie draft and we'll need his keepers soon?

The problem with this league is it would alway be easy to fight for the title. Only if you are nutts you going to tank.
Even last year when we had 14 teams x 9 players per team = 126 players and everybody know that you can find nice guys from waivers Easy

This year is going to be even more easy since we only got 12 teams and that mean we going to have ONLY 108 players on the rosters

why do we have a rookie draft if we dont have a rule that can protect that rookie for at least 1 season.
Is our team to big to grow???? from 9 to 10 players team add 1 more bench spot
is anyone going to keep a rookie from this year to next year on the 5 keepers? the answer should be NO cause lets look at last year draft only oladipo and probably noel should get on the 108 players picked
I know it was a week draft but cmon i bet my ass that if theres none new rule protecting the rookies next year
no more than 4 rookies will make the keepers so the question here is why do we have a rookie draft ???? if we only have 5 keeper and dont have a new rule saying we can have next year a 5keepers + 1 rookie from last year

This might be a good point. With 12 teams, and 5 keepers each, that's a total of 60 keepers. How many rookies will realistically break into that group? Maybe 2?

I think it is a good idea. Perhaps you can automatically protect all rookies for a period of 3 years after you draft them without it counting against your 5 keepers?

Thoughts?

not a bad suggestion at all. Though I think we should either expand the league or expand our rosters to 14 players per team.

I think it's a good suggestion too, but because our league is so small, there really aren't enough rookies to keep. Of course, we could go with something like keep 5 keepers + a rookie, but of course, with so few rookies worth keeping, that gives an unfair advantage to the couple of teams that have the Oladipos, Parkers, Wiggins, etc., allowing them to keep an extra player, while those without a superstar rookie either don't get to keep an extra player, or they do, but end up wasting a roster spot. Sabonis' suggestion might be the fix, though. Adding more players per team would validate keeping a rookie, but that's only if the rookie fits in the top 168. It's not a sure thing that more than 5 rookies fit that top 160 either, but it's better than the alternative

Long story short, I think if we're going to allow teams to keep a rookie, we should do the following:
1. Allow keepers to be 5 plus 1 rookie
2. Increase team size to 14 (per Sabonis' suggestion)
