I'm inclined to let him unless he has ever been available to pick on Yahoo. Does anyone know?

I'm not sure what you're so upset about. My answer is the same to both questions. Could the player have been picked up off the waiver wire last year on Yahoo? If so, they aren't eligible for the rookie draft.

Can you at least acknowledge this consistency, even if you disagree? Fran?

The more I think about it, the more I think this point is right on. Worrying about rookies is for leagues that are deeper than ours. I do think it's worthwhile though to maybe deepen the league a little since we lost a few teams by adding an extra roster spot at the very least.

I might be totally wrong about this but this seems very reasonable to me.

Isn't that a good thing? This way there is no team that is out of it from the start of the season and all teams have a chance of building a contender through the draft.

You're up.

So can I decide to forfeit my rookies during the FA draft if I want to be in win now mode, or are we going to make changes so we can hold onto our rookies without hurting our teams? I'm fine with whatever, I just want to know what the perimeters are going to be before I start formulating a strategy.

You can always forfeit rookie draft picks. No problem.

I'll give a final word on how we're going to handle this tomorrow.

My vote is still add 2 roster spots and add one additional keeper for players 3yr or under in the league.

No additional keepers. If anything I'd like to drop it to 4.

I'd also like to add an extra C spot but that's only because I have two many on my team.

Ok, I decided that we should probably remember to keep things simple.

So, rather than have a google spreadsheet with additional players, I'm going to do the following:

1) Add two new bench spots to make room for rookies that wouldn't normally make rosters otherwise. That brings our teams up to a total of 11 players.

2) All rookies drafted are automatically safe for the coming season. One of your rookies from any given season may be "tagged" after the season to be safe next season as well (giving you one additional keeper). But, if you drop that rookie at any point, or trade him and then trade back for him, he loses this "tagged" option. You will be able to "Tag" one sophmore player each summer, thus providing the opportunity for 6 keepers a year, if you decide to go that route.

Note: The rookie "Tag" will not apply to rookies drafted last year, as none of us knew about it, and it would provide an unfair advantage to teams that drafted rookies.

Note: Draft picks may be forfeited at any time.

So, that gives teams two bench spots in which to stash young players that you want to keep for the future.

It also gives you an extra year to evaluate one of your rookies before you have to either drop them or use one of your keeper slots on them. It tracks more like an actual NBA team that way.

Thanks for your patience guys. Hopefully this helps address some of your concerns, and though I know it won't satisfy everyone, I did try to find middle ground and take everyone's opinion into account.

Great solution BWW - thanks. As for one addition request... can we make the F starter a F/C for added roster flexibility?

So when I draft my rookie (what's the holdup anyways?), can I keep wheeling and dealing my $$$ on FA and go over my roster amount....then cut the rookies after the FA draft if I get FA haul I wanted?

Sorry you said both a rookie tag and soph tag? You mean tag a guy going into his soph season then?

No, it's referring to the same thing.

When you draft a rookie, he automatically has a spot on your team this season.

Next summer, when your rookie is now a sophomore, you may tag one of them as a 6th keeper.

I emailed him. He's in a weekend MBA program, so I'm guessing he was a little occupied this weekend.

I know I said I wasn't in any hurry to finish the rookie draft, but one pick in nearly a week, that's kind of ridiculous.

Yeah, I keep rushing to the forum because I think I'm holding things up, only to find nobody has made a pick. It's been a week. Sometimes I wish I didn't care so much about wasting others' time.
