I missed Monteijunas in SL this year so I can't comment on him, but sometimes you see a player in SL and you just know whether or not what they are doing will translate to the nba. I knew Monta Ellis would do well (and he didn't even have a great SL his rookie year), and that Diogu (who was on the very same SL team with Ellis) was going to be a dud, despite putting up SL numbers.

Not only did Monteijunas look really good in summer league, he lead the Euroleague in rebounding. Add to that Houston has no other seven footers than Monteijunas and Asik.

If only Euroleague Success = NBA Success

To be honest, I have had my eye on Monteijunas and have been biding my time to pick him, but not before the 200s. He could be good, but after what I've read, it's anything but a done deal and I figured he'd easily be there at 223. I think he'll have some good games, but I don't expect him to do all that well. The thing is, it's more common than not that Euroleague success and Summer League success don't lead to NBA success, no matter how hyped the player is. This is why I traded Valanciunas (and why I shouldn't have picked him so high).

I didn't have a good handle where he would get draft. But I figure he is likely to out preform anyone else I might get at this stage in the draft. I may have been able to wait on both but 240 was a long wait and i think they are good value.

Been eyeing Montejunas for awhile, too. Just couldn't pull the trigger. He was definitely going with my next pick. Saw him in SL and looked extremely smooth and athletic for his size. I think he'll definitely be in the top 150 and possibly a top 80 pick next year.

Did I get any of them?

you got 1 out of 2 but the other 2 picks made were right from my list, so it is 3 out of 4. I think it'll be close

We've moved at a record pace again this year. We're going to be done, and we're only half way through Sept.

Next year, I think we should push the start date to Sept 1.

No reason to do so.
Here are the reasons to keep it at mid August
1) No need to fret about potential slow-pokes
2) It gives us something to do during the doldrums of the bball offseason
3) Most, if not all, free agent/offseason transaction activity of interest is done weeks earlier.
....
plus, Did I mention it gives us something to do during the doldrums of the offseason?

I would still love a live draft. we can even do 2 drafts 1 roto 1 h2h and maybe even a 3rd one as auction draft, with 20 competent managers I believe a live auction would be amazing.

why check the boards every few hours rather than getting done with it in 2.5 hours..

and I know it's hard for 20 people to come together at the same time but we've been doing this for years with friends.

Agree.

I like how it is now.

Ya, but other than worrying about slow-pokes, aren't you just making the case to push it even further back? I mean, the doldrums exist in Sept too.

I would prefer to have more information available, and most people are just ramping up talking about fantasy football at the same time we start our draft. We usually finish before the NBA and fantasy writers really start to pay attention to the pending season. I think it would be beneficial to wait until then.
