OT: Australian Open Finals

Post#1 » by robertjanssen007 » Sun Feb 1, 2009 12:33 pm

Who else is watching Federer and Nadal killing themselves out there? Nadal leads 2 sets to 1. Looks like Federer is going to take the 4th. Federer is favoured to win because he last played on Thursday and won in straight sets while Nadal played Friday and won in 5 sets.

This is better than the **** super bowl. It's on TSN.

Federer wins 4th set in anti-climatic fashion. Nadal is hurting out there. Anything can happen still.

Im watching it right now, the 3rd set was absolutely brilliant tennis. Neither player lost serve and Nadal was just amazing in the tiebreaker. Im rooting for Federer personally but this has been amazing to watch. I wish the Raptors came out and left it on the floor like these guys do every time they step on the court :D

I notice that when Federer gets agitated, it really affects his game. Huge momentum to Nadal

And yes, the 3rd set was amazing.

Big trouble in the final set, Nadal just broke Federers serve, up 3 - 1. You're right, he does get agitated, it throws him off his game and Nadal just pounces on him. I read somewhere that he started seeing a sports psychologist to see how the mental part of his game can improve.

Federer really frustrates me. I've seen this in him so many times in past events. Nadal wins last set 6-2.

I was about to say the same thing. You could see the frustration in his mannerism during the last set. It got to him and it cost him the game. Nadal was on the other side cool and collected for every point. If it didn't go Federers way it rattled him. Congrats to Nadal, another hard fought victory. He really has Federer's number, it's currently 13 wins - 6 L in that series.

I don't know really. Just the emotion of the moment I guess.

Probably because he lost a chance at the 14th in a court that he's never lost to Nadal before, and it was in front of his idol(?) Laver, when he was so close.

Nadal has got to be the best player in tennis right now. No doubt about that.

Federer gifted the championship to Nadal today. In every set he broke Rafa, but then his own serve was utter crap today for some reason. In his two previous matches against Del Potro and Roddick, his serve was great, but today it was so off. So many times he couldn't even get a first serve in. :x

Had he served like he did in his last two matches, the title is his. Had he not choked away so many set points in the 3rd, the title is his. Just so disappointing to see his level of play drop against Rafa. :x

Federer was actually the stronger guy but he was Stojakovic-like in the clutch. Nadal earned his luck with sheer grit. I also found Federer's tears and Nadal's hug afterwards one of the great scenes in today's tennis.

Great game...
I feel bad for federer...It really is very psychological now against Nadal.
But Nadal..wow winning a grand slam on all surfaces at the age of 22...thats phenomenal..

People always talk about Federer being talked about being the best ever..surely if Nadal continues on he has to start putting himself in the discussion
