Virender Sehwag 219 vs West Indies, new highest score in ODIs. Privileged to be watching that innings.

Australia put the sword to India, Given just under 300 to win they are lucky to make 100, A few bad decisions...but hey? India could always use the DRS system to appeal....oh wait.

West Indies win the 20/20 world cup!
They showed it on tv which was great and it was a very happy moment indeed.

CRICKET!
This morning was spent in agonizing anticipation of last minute weather reports... should we go to Manchester anyway? We booked the tickets even before Christmas, increasingly learning that this is a bad idea when it comes to cricket... But Malinga!
At 11.00 a phone call from the brother in law that we were going with:
"It isn't bad here, I know what it says on the BBC website, but I think we will have a decent amount of playing time."
Looks across the table, we should, shouldn't we? So we set off towards Snakepass, crossing the Pennines behind the customary Nissan Micra-type driver that does 30 mph all the way from Hope Valley to Glossop.
When we arrive in Stockport to pick up the family we are not convinced... we decide to wait until 13.30 for the pitch inspection. At 13.27 my brother-in-law gets annoyed: We can do this in the car! We have phones! We need a parking spot!
When we arrive at Old Trafford around 2.25 we hear that we have missed 2 overs... and a wicket. We rush to our seats. two hours later Sri Lanka's last wicket falls. Malinga. They put up a massive 67 runs in a 50 over game. What? I go to the pavilion to get a beer, the first of the afternoon, when I come back there is definitely more water in the air, ominous black clouds have been drifting over all afternoon, but now it looks like a shower is unavoidable.
The England team chose to bat second... at first it puzzled me, then I saw the new kid Chris Jordan pair up brilliantly with good old Jimmy Anderson. I saw James Tredwell step in Swann's shoes at the age of 32 and marvelled at his skill and efficiency. This guy was told to work on his technique by Kent, no more than a month ago? What!
As they dispatched Sri Lanka with ease I realised we might actually see a game, despite our prediction of rain from 6PM onwards.
Bell and Cook stepped up to the crease, weathered, maligned and praised in the same year. Today they showed their best, it took them less than 13 overs to reach the pathetic total Sri Lanka had managed. The rain picked up, no tea break. I had jested that I wanted either to hit a six towards our stands. The guy in front remarked: Cook is batting... he doesn't do sixes. I realised I was in the members stand and felt dumb.
Last ball of the game, Bell smacked a six right into our stand. Take that smart-arse.
I love watching the cricket - even when it is a drab game.

Absolute **** news in Phil Hughes passing away
Only 25, real chance in making it into the test V india and kick-starting his Aussie Career again
Guttered, apart from his one flaw with the bouncer he was a terrific batsman

Sri Lanka is out...
Down to 4 teams. Australia vs. India and South Africa vs. New Zealand. I'm rooting for India in this one.

Guess I'll support NZ for the finals. I hope they bat first and get a really high score.

We should win but even if we don't at least India won't win it.

Re: The International Cricket Thread
Just lost a lot of respect for English cricket fans. No one likes it when their team loses a wicket, but that was deliberate obstruction as plain as day. Why boo the other team and jeer sarcastically for something your own player did wrong? Then a few balls later and they get an LBW no call overturned, and they boo again. Sound like a baby who's spat the dummy and threw their rattle out of the pram.
