I'll be pulling for Del Potro.

Federer beats Djokovic for Cincy title:

Clearly Nola's not in a good place. Amazing how he peak so high and then fell off. Wonder what's up.

I don't like this board but I had to come show my support for Clijsters on her way out of tennis. Today, my favorite women's tennis player of all time retired officially from singles competition. She was unique in her personality and talent, and was incredibly loveable; I am truly saddened that she will no longer be competing...again. And this time it's - obviously - for the long haul. I hope with every ounce of my tennis being that women's tennis - and tennis in general - will see this mixture of talent and personality again soon.

One of my truly favorite players left tennis today, albeit to a great, young, up-and-comer. Good luck to them both moving forward.

Yeah I just came on to say too bad Clijsters went out like that, but it's just an unfortunate moment that will not in the end overshadow a great career of a really good ambassador for the sport. Graf was my favourite, and when she retired I didn't have another one, but I really liked watching KC play. Clijsters was always a tough competitor but very classy, too.

Its sad how Kim ends her career in US Open.. but otoh, she already has won a lot.. 41 singles titles, 4 GS, 1 Master tournament.. etc etc
let alone Kim's game was very entertaining.. Im sure she will be remembered as one of the best players ever in the WTA tour...

Dang this thread is dead. Hoping to see Sock play. Thought he would be a little better career wise from what I saw at last years open. Not that surprising that Roddick is retiring around 30 is about when a lot of the current generation hangs it up. People don't stick around as long as they used to. Honestly tennis overall is in a pretty poor place IMO and could be even worse if Federer retires any time soon. Plus Rafa seems the type who could have a bit of a chang/Hewitt early flame out.

We'd be at page 5 or 6 if we could have a thread on the Bucks board. But hey, not my place apparently... ;)

UGA, I have always loved your perspective. What do you think about the Clijsters and Roddick retirements and, since she is playing, the pending departure of Venus? Should she retire (from singles) at current form or play her career out? I have my opinions but I'd like to hear yours.

I freaking adore Venus Williams. She was long my favorite female tennis player until Kimmy's resurgence (formerly it was Lindsay Davenport), but ultimately I love them both. The past two years her play has been uninspired for the most part, but tonight she is showing ferocity playing Angelique Kerber and not letting go. It's inspiring and I love watching her play. Very exciting and I hope she can pull through.

Thanks for the kind words. I will miss all three of them. Clijsters was always a very likable player and I'm glad that she finally won a few slams, although insome respects I think she was a bit lucky by how cursed the rest of the women's top players become in the sense that it seems like ever since Monica Seles was stabbed all the top players have been unable to stay on the court. From Hingis feet problem, to Capriati's drug use, to Henin retiring for no reason, to the Williams sisters apathy, and more we kind of missed out on what should have been sort of a golden era of womens tennis, which instead was and is now anthing but.

Oh Roddick, I was always a fan. Yes he is awkward, ascerbic, who could have shown more class/poise from time to time, but I did like that he tried pretty hard to raise the profile of mens tennis, something I feel tennis players aren't nearly active enough in doing. PArt of it is that the tour administrators at times make Baseball look progressive, but part of it is that the players get so rich so fast, they don't bother. On Roddick, it was pretty jarring to realize that an American Male hasn't won since 2003, when he won and you have to feel bad for him in the since that he probably played a few of his best matches ever in GS finals especially against Roger, and Roger at times pulled so much out of his ass it seems kind of unfair. The other thing I like about Roddick which you can say about very few players is that he didn't really tank matches, pretty much always giveing all out effort. I think its a testament ot his ethiic that he did so well since he has some serious holes in his game.

I hope Raonic takes him out :) Highly unlikely though haha.

Novak is the favourite imo. He is straight up destroying people.

**** Isner, he had the best chance he's probably ever going to have to make a deep run at a major and he choked it away. Just a mentally weak match.

I just can't see it. Fish hasn't been playing well at all this tournament.

Fish has withdrawn from the tournament. Federer gets a walkover to the QF's.
