I am just pissed that Novak is now down 1-0 in sets basically due to that (Please Use More Appropriate Word) set being played. I don't want to see that type of tennis.

Why in the hell would they not play both the matches at once if they knew severe whether was coming? Mind-boggling
They did actually answer it but I do not like their answer. They said it is because of the people who paid to watch both matches and the people who want to watch both matches on TV. This is exactly what the male players complained about earlier in the year when they said that people running tennis care more about their money than the integrity of the tournament and giving everybody an equal shot. Murray now gets an extra day of rest because of the stupid schedule the US Open set up.

So are you saying Novak should be pissed? Ferrer is the one that should be pissed. He had Djokovic on the ropes when the match had to be called. Now Djokovic - clearly the more talented player - had the time to regroup and come back to the match with something different and in different conditions. Honestly, it's within the realm of possibility that Djokovic can rally and take the first set still.

Right on cue, Djokovic comes out and effectively blows Ferrer off the court in the second set. Close final game, but the set was a runaway.

Djokovic in a completely different class than Ferrer - both today and always.
Hope tomorrow's final is a good one.

Re: US Open 2012
Man, it continually blows my mind how stupid the US Open is for not having a roof on Center Court.
Djokovic vs Murray final definitely feels like THE match to see for the moment. Things get particularly interesting if Murray wins. Not only will that validate Murray as clearly being in the top top tier, I think you'd have to say then that at this particular moment he's the best in the world. Additionally, it will be quite clear at that point that it's unreasonable to think of Djokovic in terms of how he played in early 2011 again, until he pulls that off again.
For perspective: Djokovic right now has only won 3 titles in the past 12 months. In the previous 12 months before that, he won 11 titles.
Of course that also means that even if Djokovic wins, it's not a given that he'll be like he was before, but he'll clearly still be the consensus best player in the world.

Andrew Lawrence wrote in SI two weeks that he thinks the US Open getting a roof is far-fetched because he says the ground beneath Arthur Ashe Stadium is likely to be too soft to hold the extra weight. He also suggests that the US Open uses the $100 million it cost Wimbledon to build a roof on converting the courts to clay and spending the left over money on public facilities.

Re: US Open 2012
WOW Azarenka had it right there, but couldn't finish. Hardest thing to do. Feet get heavy, hands get heavy, heart pounding, mind racing. She was very gracious in defeat, though, even though she was clearly emotional over the loss. She played very well, and will have her chances in the future.
Serena pulled through even though she had some weird unforced errors. Glad for her. For someone in the supposed twilight of a career, she's had an amazing stretch recently. Congratulations
I'm really looking forward to the men's final tomorrow and hope that Murray still has some Olympic magic left over. People who get to go are SO lucky. It would be a dream come true to see a US Open match, let alone a final. Hopefully it's a close match - blowouts in the final are always a bit of a letdown.

Man, what epic failure. I don't know how the hierarchy goes with the US Open, but somebody at some point needs to have been fired. It's absolutely amazing to me that any sports executive in the 1990s would make a blunder that drastically hurts TV revenues in favor of helping box office receipts. I mean, before the US Open EVER put a dime toward the new stadium, Camden Yards had opened in Major League Baseball shuffling in the new era of smarter, smaller stadiums.
The writing was on the wall for sports in general...and NO sport can lose revenue as badly as tennis do to whether.
As far as what to do now, I don't see a change to clay as feasible. The US for the most part plays on hard court, which is why we suck at clay. Tennis is already hurting badly in the US because there aren't enough good Americans, to put the flagship tennis tournament on a surface that Americans don't play on much and don't play on well would only make that worse.
I don't know the financial situation of the US Open so I can't make a great recommendation. I will say though that if the rainouts are hurting the finances badly enough, then a roof just has to happen, and if it can't happen on a stadium the size of Ashe, then they had to build a new stadium as soon as they can afford it. Embarassing as hell, and something they'll avoid if they can, but they need to not let embarassment keep them from making the best fix they can.

Just hit me today that she has won in 9 different years over a 14 year period, and isn't showing signs of slowing down yet. Incredible.

Re: US Open 2012
Andy Murray on top right now against Djokovic. 1 set up, and a break up in the second.
As big of a fan as I am of Nole, I would love for Andy to win his first grand slam here.

Wow. After that comeback in the second set, Djokovic loses it like that...

Just turned it on at 3-2 in third. Murray playing a little too tentatively I think. Big mistake against Djokavic IMO. Fully expect this to go five.

This is going badly for Murray right now. Djokovic is controlling the play and Murray is missing everything.

Someone who hates the chair umpire more than Djokovic right now? Andy Murray.

Time to see what Murray's made of. Career defining kind of set coming up for Andy.
