can’t believe Jakob didn’t even podium. 1-3-5 from the Americans is unreal. In the past we didn’t even sniff the podium, and were lucky to even be in the final.
All three Americans were brilliant in this race. Expect big things in the future from Kessler. He looks very poised for a 21 year old and I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins gold in Los Angeles 4 years from now.
Crazy good race. So glad to see a championship race go out at that pace too. Jakob got the overall strategy right imo, just lost it in the detail (probably stepped on the gas a little too early?) But it was the only way he could beat the field if he could do it right.
Hocker is an animal, best kick in the field, perhaps in elite middle distance running in general.
The crazy thing is, as Hocker was making his move initially with just over 100 to go, Jakob blocked him off and prevented him from passing on the inside. So Hocker lost a few steps, but somehow still had enough kick to get right back there and found a small opening to pass Jakob.

They've been going at it for some time now.
He tried to block Josh on the exterior and push him outside as much as possible. That's when Cole took advantage.
Ingebritsen and Hocker have a rematch today in a little while. Also a rematch about to start with Samba-Mayela and Camacho-Quinn in the women's 100M hurdles...they got silver and bronze. Alaysha Johnson who hit a hurdle and fell back in the olympics is there too as well as Grace Stark who finished 5th in Paris.
