Despite Jakob pushing the pace hard, Hocker still found a way to find that extra gear. Just an unbelievable race all around. Championship races are usually never this close to world record times.

can’t believe Jakob didn’t even podium. 1-3-5 from the Americans is unreal. In the past we didn’t even sniff the podium, and were lucky to even be in the final.

All three Americans were brilliant in this race. Expect big things in the future from Kessler. He looks very poised for a 21 year old and I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins gold in Los Angeles 4 years from now.

Crazy good race. So glad to see a championship race go out at that pace too. Jakob got the overall strategy right imo, just lost it in the detail (probably stepped on the gas a little too early?) But it was the only way he could beat the field if he could do it right.
Hocker is an animal, best kick in the field, perhaps in elite middle distance running in general.

The crazy thing is, as Hocker was making his move initially with just over 100 to go, Jakob blocked him off and prevented him from passing on the inside. So Hocker lost a few steps, but somehow still had enough kick to get right back there and found a small opening to pass Jakob.

They've been going at it for some time now.
He tried to block Josh on the exterior and push him outside as much as possible. That's when Cole took advantage.

Ingebritsen and Hocker have a rematch today in a little while. Also a rematch about to start with Samba-Mayela and Camacho-Quinn in the women's 100M hurdles...they got silver and bronze. Alaysha Johnson who hit a hurdle and fell back in the olympics is there too as well as Grace Stark who finished 5th in Paris.

Decent 1500m. Looked like Jakob came out with extra spice after the Olympic Final. 800m men was a solid too, not sure what Arop was up to though, both going wide around the pacer and then seemingly just ceeding the rail to Wanyoni. Surely a matter of time till Rudisha's WR falls though.

Yeah, Errington Knighton looked good in the 200. He will be coming into his own soon. Tebogo still took it with Kerley 3rd.

Image

Dina Asher-Smith took 1st in the 100, but Tamara Davis 2nd. She has a good chance of making the olympics next time. She finished in 4th at the trials, right behind TT Terry.

Image

Then Bol got her win without Syndey or Cockrell there. Clayton was leading much of that race though. And Shamier Little in last.

Image

Grant Holloway I think with his first loss this year.

Image

Camacho-Quinn back on top in the 100M, but no Russell. Grace Stark 2nd though. Samba-Mayelo who was great at the olympics didn't do well and Alaysha Johnson may have lost her confidence.

Image

Then yes, Hocker and Hoppel couldn't quite keep up with Jakob. Hoppel finished 4th in the 800, and in the women's 3000 Cranny in 4th and Schweizer in 7th.

Another meet on Sunday. I guess they do the other events then?

I'm going to start watching more Track & Field. It's nice it runs in the offseason of the NBA and NFL.

Yeah I think there are different events. Pretty sure there is a 3000m off the top of my head.

Yes, they have the 3000M. And the 60M and 60M hurdles, at least in indoor meets. I was watching some of the earlier meets this year, and Sydney's coach had her run the 200M in May. This is pretty unbelievable. Would have placed 2nd in this olympics. Gabby wasn't quite there yet but won the race in her next meet (though not with anywhere near the time Sydney had here). There is another meet today. It said 9 am, and I'm central time so I don't know if that is 9 central or eastern.

Speaking of the 3000M, Ingebritsen just beat the world record by 3 seconds. Pretty good 400M hurdles to start the meet with Bol pulling ahead of Cockrell and Clayton for the win. It's funny they say she looks much better than in the olympics in the event and given Sydney wasn't there, she did, but she ran a better time in the olympics than today.

Good 200M with Bednarek breaking out to a lead, but Tebogo really turning it on down the stretch to take it. Some guy from the Dominican Republic, Ogando took 2nd with Bednarek in 3rd, Errington 4th and King 5th. Looking at the olympic results, I guess Ogando finished 5th there.

In the Pole Vault, Armand Duplantis beat his own WR he set at the olympics and is miles ahead of any competition, though Sam Kendricks got 2nd and 2 other Americans 4th and 6th.

Yes, they have the 3000M. There is another meet today at 3PM ET.

Looking at an earlier meet this is pretty unbelievable:

One of the final meets of the season today...just a couple more.

I actually haven't watched DL Zurich yet but I've been watching highlights of the U20 world championships and I'm blown away that another TWO USA relay teams botched a baton hand-off and lost. Again!

How hard is it to pass a baton and why is USA the only country that struggles with this?? Just had to vent lol.
Gonna miss KP but he's no Georges Niang.

Who caught Warholm vs Duplantis in the 100m?

This has been one of the best years of track and field since I’ve started following the sport over 20 years ago. I think we’ve entered the golden age. There’s so many great stars like Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Tebogo, and Mondo Duplantis pushing the sport forward and bringing news eyes to their events.

Hocker hasn't done as well lately. Still fairly well but Jakob has gotten the better of him. I wonder if they will both race today.

Not sure about the first one right now. Yes, this is a great year. Last track meet in the Diamond League today.

I watched all the U20 ones too. Yes, it's amazing how often they do, and how most countries rarely have problems.

The last meets are today and tomorrow in Brussels, starting on Peacock now.

Looks like Sydney is racing today too. I haven't seen her in a Diamond League match recently. She is going to race in the regular 400M right now and the 200M tomorrow. Last time she ran the 200M she beat everyone, including Gabby Thomas.

Sha'Carri Richadrson, Hocker, Paulino and Duplanti there as well. I'm sure a lot of other big names too they haven't mentioned yet.

I am unsure when the race was they just showed that Sydney ran, but she ran a 49.11. They had mentioned it wasn't on the schedule, but they did show it anyway.

Then there was another 400 race and Paulino won and they said she was the Diamond League champ, but she ran a 49.45.

Wow, Ackeem Blake beat Fred Kerley and Christian Coleman in the 100. Coleman got out in front as usual. I thought Kerley came back to beat him, but I guess Coleman edged him by 1/100th of a second.

I guess we have 3 runners in the 200M mens too with Bednarek (who ran a personal best in his last race I believe) and beat Tebogo, Kyree King and Courtney Lindsey.

Was due to the DL final rules where you need to have competed in at least one of the other events to be eligible to a Wild Card spot. They actually eff'd up and told Sydney she could compete then realised she wasn't actually able to. So instead she competed in the non DL races (I think they might actually have put these together for her, but there are often non DL races at these events).

1500M was pretty good. Jakob then tried to back it up 36 hours later (I think that is how long it was) with his Half Debut at Copenhagen. Managed to last through 10km to set a Norwegian 10k record then bonked, was walking for parts.... still ran 63min haha.
