Perfect Targets

Post#1 » by esvl » Fri Sep 16, 2022 8:49 pm

We know for sure that Memphis are going to be buyers up to the deadline, focusing, in my view, primarily on superstars rather than regular rotational players.
I wonder who do you think in our short-list of targets whose availability we are waiting for?

Not sure about superstar depending on your definition. There are only like 3-6 of those currently in the NBA...Jokic, Embiid, Giannis, Doncic then maybe Durant and Curry are still considered that. Of this group then Durant is the only that has a chance to hit the market by the deadline this year but imo the Nets are going to give it the full year if possible.

Now if you are talking about all star level player i.e. top 30ish players then there are quite a few that might become available.

First the Nets as I said above likely keep the team in tact, but here is a chance that Irving and Simmons are on the market is things blow up there. Irving I dont' think is worth the headache but Simmons would be a interesting add.

Toronto. I think there is a small chance they decide to take a longer view and sell off Siakam, he would likely be the best match for our needs that might hit the market. FVV too but don't think we would put the highest bid on him.

Chicago- I could see a scenario where things go south and Lavine hints he wants out. DDR too would be on the move too if that happened. Don't love either target for Memphis.

Washington- They would be smart to sell Beal if they are offered a good deal, that contract is brutal imo and I wouldn't want Memphis to be the team that gives up assets for him. Porzingis would be an interesting buy low option for us to pair with JJJ.

OKC- SGA could ask out if he gets tired of tanking. Not sure I value him much more than I do Bane so likely not the best option for us.

I think we need some more shooting in the front court and a SF that has a little more efficient creation ability than Brooks while still being a decent defender. A younger Middleton or Paul George type...those type of guys rarely become available though.

I have also struggled to come up with any name other than KD.

Great list!

The perfect target would be Jaylen Brown, but I can't see him getting moved unless somehow the Brown+ for KD type deal happens and we sneak in and grab him somehow. I do like X's list. Hunter if he could stay healthy would be great. Wiggins fits super well and is a sneaky good target which is a little ironic considering how much hate he got from the NBA community at large not that long ago. He will be sought after given his latest playoff performance. Cool to see him embrace his role and excel at it. I like the Siakam pick too.
