Lowry

Post#1 » by oakfanintheeast » Thu Jan 3, 2008 12:19 am

seems like the Griz are awfully eager to start Conley. I'm not sure Lowry likes that, especially with the way he has been playing this year, and how much his three ball has improved. I know they drafted him (stupidly).. how do the Griz fans feel about the way Lowry is being dogged by the organization?

As long as one of our young PGs is starting, I'm fine with it.

I think Lowry will still get his share of PT. But, you're kinda right that he should be starting with the way he's been playing this year. I guess they wanna see what Conley can do with the way the team has been playing lately...

I wonder if they are in a hurry to shut down Damon or they are playing Conley the Savior card?

Conley is the best point guard on the roster. The only thing he is lacking is experience. He is able to do so many things the other two can not. His quickness and vision are only matched by a few guys league wide. Lowry should not feel slighted but recognize that Conley is the real deal. I watched him closely tonight and it is plain to see this guy can average 10 dimes a game with ease. Lowry was really an unknown going into the season, but it is clear now that he is a good backup point guard. He reminds me a lot of Earl Watson as the have the same skill set and are limited in what they bring to the position.

I agree on the Lowry / Watson comparison... but I think Watson is better defensively.

The offense has really tended to bog down with Lowry in the game.

Stro4, I really don't think Lowry has played that well this season. He's had his moments, but overall I think his effect on the half court offense has really been more negative than positive. Too much of his offensive production is dependent on fast breaks... he doesn't seem to do a good job of facilitating crisp play in half court sets.

First, every interview I've seen with Lowry leads me to believe that he is a mature and professional player - so if Conley starting over him is a problem to him (which I don't think it is really), it shouldn't affect his play or effort.

With that said, (and to echo other posters) Lowry is best suited as a backup IMO. He's limited on the offensive end (particularly in half court sets) right now, but he changes the tempo and momentum of the game with dogged defensive effort and full throttle fast breaks (even if it's only him pushing it against one or two defenders). Bringing him off the bench for small bursts of minutes is a strategic move to break the flow of the game IMO.

^ True.

Now all we have to do is break this spell he's been under the past 30 games trying to make him into a half-court PG and let Kyle be Kyle. Coast to coast. Take it to the rack in your face son!
