That is not realistic though. Those positions are so close that you probably will not even receive a 2nd round pick additionally. Not only that, but you risk the chance of him falling to a team that wants to keep him.

You're right, 5 to 7 probably doesn't yield much. Gordon's not worth it at 7 then either.

How about this then, if the Grizz don't pick at 5, they need to add value by moving down. So if they add value and get Godon at 10 or so - great. Otherwise, this draft is a major bust/disappointment.

^ I would agree.
(not with where I think Gordon deserves to be drafted after this season, but where I would take him if I were the Grizzlies)

I believe that trading down/for next year's pick is the best course to take.

Ok... so on a positive note... There is a possibility that the following happens:

Conley, #5
for
Banks, Cook, #2

Miller, Collins
for
Raef, #13

buy 2 early 2nd rd picks from Portland

draft
#2 - Beasley
#13 - Rush
#28 - Walker
2nd rd: JR Giddens, Dorsey

New Lineup (very young):
Lowry/Critt/Banks
Cook/Rush/Giddens
Gay/Walker/Cardinal
Beasley/Warrick*/Dorsey
Gasol/Milicic/Raef*(they could buyout Raef, because they would not trade that huge expiring)

this would put the Grizz payroll at about: $52.27 million (about $5mil under the cap)
Raef - $12.72mil
Warrick - $2.1mil
Stoudamire - $2.3mil
If the Grizz choose not to extend Warrick, they would have approx. $17mil expiring.
Then in the summer of '10 they have another $14mil expiring (Cardinal & Darko)

Since the Grizz know they would have to max both Beasley and Gay, I would not expect them to spend a lot of that money! It is Heisley after all!!!

Sorry guys, I don't see that Portland trade happening. Portland would only get Miller out of this draft. Portland doesn't sell draft picks, they buy them. Paul Allen never needs money so I don't see that trade happening. I could definitely see something happening between the two teams. The rumor we heard yesterday was something along the lines of...

Raef and #13

Cardinal, Collins and #5

I dunno if Portland would need to toss Webster into the deal or not. Just tellin ya what we've heard out here. I definitely don't see Portland trading Raef and #13 straight up for Mike Miller though or selling the 2nd round draft picks. Portland would probably stash some europeans overseas for a few years with those picks like they seem to do every year.

Good luck Thursday night!!!

The Grizz would have to have a FA next year that they KNOW would come here in order to do a deal like this to only save $7mil

Return to Memphis Grizzlies
