The Grizzlies would have to give up Gay in order to get Beasley. But Gay can be replaced. SF is the most easily replaceable position in the NBA and Gay is not even that good anyways. Yeah he's averaging 18.8 ppg, but on a really bad team. Someone has to score points, it just so happens Gay is one of the better scorers on a bad team.

Plus the guy is scoring those points on .447% shooting. That's nothing impressive and his .312 3 pt % is even less impressive.

Conley, Gay, and Warrick for Beasley and maybe another talent or two I think would be a steal. Mayo and Gasol are the real prize.

You guys are reading a hacked up version of the real story.
1) Phoenix was asking for Conley, Gay and Warrick for Amare.

2) A different report in the same story stated that Memphis may facilitate the trade between Miami and Phoenix that would end up with Beasley in Memphis.

Supposedly Phoenix is really high on Conley. Whatever happens, I have to think that Memphis bringing back Blount's contract is how the trade goes down and Phoenix ends up below the lux tax threshold which I think is what Sarver really wants to do in this deal.

I think Memphis will either give up Conley, Hak, Buckner or Hak, Lowry, Buckner and 09 1st (top 1 protection) and end up with Beasley.

Why not get rid of conley. Mayo/Gay/Warrick/Gasol are good. Add the 09 Draft, Free Agency 09 or 2010, and a new point guard. The Grizz should be a Top 5 team in the West in 2-3 years.

Not with Warrick as our PF.

If we have to give up Conley and our pick to get Beasley, then I'm all for it. Blount and Darko would give us $15.5M in expiring contracts in 2010. With a lineup of Mayo/Gay/Beasley/Gasol, all you have to do is find a guard to compliment Mayo.

There haven't been any reports on the specifics of the proposed 3-team trade featuring Amare Stoudemire between Phoenix, Miami, and the Grizz that would bring Michael Beasley to Memphis, but I really hope that we could swing a deal for Beasley without giving up Rudy Gay. Here is a deal that I think would work out for all teams-

Memphis gets- Michael Beasley, Mark Blount
Phoenix gets- Mike Conley, Hakim Warrick, this year's first round pick from Memphis (top-1 protected), and Greg Buckner.
Miami gets- Amare Stoudemire

Phoenix gets immediate cap/tax savings, Steve Nash's eventual successor in Mike Conley, a top-10 pick in this year's draft, and the expiring contracts of Hakim Warrick and Greg Buckner. You could add a sweetner to their side, such as Darrell Arthur, Daequan Cook, a future 1st round pick from Miami, or the Lakers' 2010 first round pick that belongs to the Grizzlies.

Miami gets Amare Stoudemire without having to give up both Marion and Beasley, and they also shed Mark Blount's ridiculous contract.

Memphis gets Michael Beasley without having to give up Rudy Gay, and they have a monster core of Mayo, Gay, and Beasley. Both Darko and Blount's contracts expire in 2010, leaving them tons of money to re-sign Gay. This does seem like a lot to give up for Beasley and a crappy contract, but pulling off a deal like this would give the Grizz their 3 stars of the future, and would only need role players after a blockbuster trade like this. All we would need is a solid/role playing guard to put next to O.J. Mayo, and that can be found in the 2nd round of the draft (i.e. Mario Chalmers, Ramon Sessions), and we would have our starting five of the future.

I think it's a win-win for all sides, but for some reason it just seems too good to be true.

From an outsider's perspective, what am I missing about the trio of Conley, Warrick, and Gay? Warrick's a career backup, Conley's been playing well as of late, but he's not going to be a top 5 pg or anything, and Gay's probably going to be a borderline allstar player in his prime. All 3 of those guys are easily replaceable via draft or free agency. Of course it would leave Mem very thin this year, but who cares. You guys probably have capspace coming up, so you can fill the rest of the team via free agency and draft, and build around Amare and OJ.

Mayo is the #1 scoring option on the grizz. Rudy's out side shooting and athletism is a solid #2. Gasol and a FA PF or PG is a solid piece to add.
