Raps - Grizzlies trade

Post#1 » by diggity_88 » Sat May 2, 2009 9:10 am

Okay so if you guys end up with the 5-6 draft pick and your up at the clock.
Say, Harden is still up or Derozen is still on the board... would you guys do this trade

Gasol,
5-6 pick (picking harden or derozen for us)
Marco Jaric(since its a bad contract)

for

Caldy,
Hump(hes better then pple think, great energy guy)
8-10 pick

does that seem fair?

Pass. We don't need Calderon as we already have Conley, and I'd rather not give up Gasol just to dump Jaric's contract.

Ohh okay my bad. I was left under the impression that Mike Conley was underachieving. But, I could be mixing him up with another player.

How is he doing anyways for you guys? what do you think he has the potential of being in the future?

How is he on defense and such, and running an offense?

Also, what do you see your team being in the future? What are the biggest holes/weaknesses in your teams?

How about this proposal

Gasol, 4-6 pick, Jaric

For

Caldy, 8-10 pick, Hump, Lottery protected first for the next 5 years or something (i'm not sure how the rules with picks work, so i'm just listing something reasonable), and 3 mil

I´m pretty sure that Gasol is untouchable at this point

No Gasol isn't untouchable. Like Chris Wallace said, no player on a 24 win team is untouchable. But IMO he is the 2nd most important player on this team behind Mayo, so he won't be easily had by any means.

I can only see Gasol leaving Memphis in a win-now situation, just like the Jefferrson-Garnett trade. And we aren´t in this situation so I´m pretty sure that he and Mayo are untouchable, besides whatever CW says

With Memphis suffering some losing seasons to build(yet again) from the ground up with a solid nucleus of Gay, Mayo, Gasol, and possibly Conley, I just don't see them changing course now and moving too many pieces around.

As mentioned no one should be untouchable but it would have to be a "WOW" offer to make them jump at trading any of them, especially a solid, hard to find big man like Gasol and the #6 pick.

I really believe they'll make another run at a free agent power forward(unless they can get Griffin or Hill). The more I think about it with the way Lionel Hollins had them seemingly buying into the team concept I think that by getting that top quality free agent power forward, and adding the right character and leadership quality veteran(s) they'll really have a chance to make a significant improvement next season.

Calderon would be a fantastic addition(he was hampered all season long with a hamstring injury but toughed it out even though it's impossible to go 100% with that type of thing) and I've gone on record as being in favour of trading the pick but Gasol and their pick for him is pretty bad. Jaric and Humphries is just window dressing. Now Conley and their pick(#6) in return for Calderon and the Raptors pick(#9) would suit me. I think Calderon could have the same effect that Billups had when he went to Denver, that steady, guiding hand that can shoulder a big load and bring character to the team.

I'll put Rudy Gay on the market before I put Marc Gasol on the market.
