Summer Move

Post#1 » by Childlike » Mon Jun 15, 2009 5:11 pm

What do y'all think of this little trade

Raptors trade:
Andrea Bargnani
Shawn Marion (3 yrs/ 22M)

Grizzlies trade:
Rudy Gay
Darrell Arthur
Darko Milicic

You get some scoring at the 4-5 position and some size along with a seasoned veteran that can still produce and start games, is good defensively, rebounds and is a strong vocal leader.

I wouldn't do it personally, but it's not a horrible deal.

I'm not crazy about it, but I doubt Toronto does this as when the inevitable happens in losing Bosh the saving grace is Bargnani playing the position he should play. Can the organization afford to lose both in less than a year?

Doubtful!

I would make this trade as long as Marion would accept those contract terms. He would be a good veteran that would have a team to lead. Plus at that price he would be cheaper than a re-signed Gay. He plays better defense and rebounds better than Gay as well.

Barganani puts up fairly solid numbers and might be a good fit on the Grizzlies. He seemed to gain alot of confidence this last season and at a still young age has more upside yet. Being from Canada I watched almost every Raptors game on TV since I subscribe to Raptors tv and didn't have any blackout games since I'm on the westcoast( I'd say I saw more games than most fans from Toronto). Bargnani is a good up and coming player who in my opinion is going to get even better.

Plus a deal like this keeps the #2 pick as well.

You know this is a perfect example of the quandry the Grizz are currently in. While a deal like this is not huge it is a fairly big deal yet it would do absolutely nothing to clear up what they should do with the #2 in light of such a move.

Dowtown you are right there are plenty of reasons the Grizz should do the deal, but also as a Raptors fan do you think Colangelo gets out alive afterwards?

Good question. As far as Marion goes plenty of people in Toronto have already moved on from him and are thinking about the cap space. But for sure Bargnani is well liked and the fact it was Colangelo that went out on a limb and drafted #1 overall him factors into it.

People in Toronto waited patiently for Bargnani to develop and now that he's on the verge of taking it to the next level they might revolt if they traded him. And the biggest reason for them not to trade him obviously is that Chris Bosh has said he's looking to test the free agent waters.

Just imagine if they traded Bargnani and lost Bosh as well. Not a pretty picture.

resign Warrick and do it.

hate losing Arthur on the trade but I think it's worth it.

I like bargnani at the 4 with Gasol at 5. We'd be a very painful team to defend against. Think you got OJ covered? Marion, Conley, and Andrea can all shoot it. Then inside you got Gasol that is going to bang you and frustrate you with Marion unafraid to come inside for the dish and strong finish (unlike Rudy Gay it seems).

Darko hopefully gets his Euro game on in Toronto. Rudy Gay gives Raptors their most exciting player since Vinsanity. (including Garbajosa and Jamario Moon)
