Yahoo: Grizz hold key to 2009 draft

The Memphis Grizzlies are trying to talk tough, saying they’re unafraid to draft Ricky Rubio with the No. 2 pick in the NBA draft, but no one believes them.

Nevertheless, Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace finds himself in a tough spot. He has a volatile owner, Michael Heisley, puffing out his chest, and a player agent, Dan Fegan, threatening to embarrass the franchise should it try to take Rubio.

Apparently, Heisley has been as impatient as ever with Wallace. This ebbs and flows, but league sources say Pau Gasol’s marvelous play in the Los Angeles Lakers’ championship run has Heisley coming down on Wallace all over again for last year’s trade. Of course, Heisley pushed for the lousy Lakers deal, but that’s been lost in the revisionist history.

The Sacramento Kings had been the most likely team to cut a deal with Memphis to move into the second spot to take Rubio, but league sources say the Kings’ motivation to do so has waned. The Kings don’t want to give up Jason Thompson and their fourth pick to get to No. 2, especially considering there’s a chance Rubio could drop to Sacramento anyway. Fegan has no issues with Rubio in Oklahoma City or Sacramento, but he’ll be difficult if the point guard ends up in Memphis.

Minnesota’s offer of a package that includes Kevin Love and a first-round pick intrigues Wallace too, sources say.

No offence, but you're not telling us anything new. The debate around Rubio has reached into every possibility, to the point where I don't think Grizzlies fans will be surprised by whatever ends up happening. Keep Rubio, draft and keep Thabeet, take a chance and draft Harden or Evans, trade for the #4, trade for Kevin Love, trade for Al Horford, trade the #2 for the #5 and #6 in a three way deal, trade for Beasley, trade for Bosh(yeah, like that one will happen), trade for the #8 from New York(in their dreams), trade with Golden State in a variety of packages, trade for Devin Harris. About the only two teams that haven't been in alot of the talk is OKC and the Clippers.

I don't believe we'll read anything new from now to draft day that hasn't come across these boards, unless some fan suggests something from left field that makes no sense(actually I'm sure something like that will be posted by someone).

But I agree that Memphis is the first domino that could trigger a chain of events. It's to the point that there's really not much more to discuss and it's waiting time until draft day.

I wasnt trying to tell you anything new.

I posted an article about the Grizz from a writer on a major internet sports news group.

It was so you can see what is being written about your team.

Yo Tommy, if these Griz fans don't appreciate you posting an article for them, you're always welcome to hang out at the Knicks forum.
