At least he's a guy who would be willing to play for Memphis. I can sort of understand the Rubio thing, but if it's true that Thabeet is trying to avoid Memphis maybe he has taken Memphis Real GM contributors to heart. I think Thabeet has pretty high bust potential so it's laughable he should be trying to avoid being the second pick in the draft.

Who knows what is true and what isn't at draft time? Maybe Thabeet has had a guarantee from OKC and he sees them as a better fit since the Grizzlies have Gasol. It sounds as though most Memphis fans aren't too heartbroken.

From Chad Ford, so..
Hasheem Thabeet canceled a scheduled workout with the Grizzlies on Sunday, and it may not have been because of a sore shoulder. The injury was the official explanation, but Chad Ford of ESPN has reported that Thabeet doesn't want to play in Memphis. Instead of working out for the Grizzlies, Thabeet stayed in Los Angeles to talk Thunder general manager Sam Presti into drafting him with the third overall pick. "They don't spend any money anymore. They don't have a commitment to put a winning team on the floor right now. It's not where an agent wants to send his star pick," one source said of Memphis.

Thabeet, Ricky Rubio and Stephen Curry have all refused workouts with the Grizzlies.

GB Draft Coverage...feel free to stop on by and spread the Grizzlies love and news, rumors, Prospect talk, etc leading up to and on Draft night...the GB could use more Memphis presence (just be polite in doing so). :D :P

Hopefully a pick-by-pick update can be provided.

I was considering on dropping in, until the whole "polite" caveat was thrown in

Andy Katz was just on Sportcenter reporting that contrary to his original report Minnesota is DEFINATELY going to try to move up to #2 . Not for the 5 and 6 picks though, Katz mentioned the 5th and 18th for the 2nd.

all in an attempt to get Rubio

He said nothing about Memphis going for an idiotic deal like that though.

If I'm the Memphis GM and I'm not really sold on any of the players available standing out as a sure-thing at #2,the #5,#18 might make a lot of sense, esp if I can get E.Thomas thrown in for Jaric.(Save a yr on Jaric's contract,Thomas has health issues and if he can't play, hello insurance money!,if he can he's a tough inside presence and as an expiring contract might get something towards the trade deadline.)
W/the #5 I draft Hill, hoping he'll develope into my PF,use the 18 on an Ellington,or whatever PG fell and can now sell the #27.

It's like demanding Kevin Love and a draft pick is too difficult for management.

At the point of the draft last season the Grizz were going to draft and keep Love. Not dismissing you or Katz, Sid - I just pray you are wrong.

Just sent Givony at DraftExpress an email disputing something he'd written (politely believe it or not) and he was nice enough to reply. There was one very disturbing piece to it though...

Either way, they are taking Thabeet.

Season tickets will be burning come Thursday night if this plays out...

I will not watch Grizz basketball until he is off the team, nor will I consider myself a fan of the team. This would be the last straw for me as a fan.

If they draft Thabeet and keep him then this team is more screwed up in the heads than I thought. Not to blame it on Thabeet personally. He would benefit elsewhere like the Thunder for instance.
