you'd think this would tarnish calipari's rep as well since his 1996 UMASS team had similar issues. very sad I think :( memphis always gets a shaft

U of Memphis vacates the 07-08 season.

Derrick Rose - free as a bird
John Calipari - got a big fat raise
RC Johnson - still gainfully employed
Antonio Anderson and Robert Dozier - treated like trannies on open cell night at 201 Poplar
Delusional KY fans - priceless...

There are many times that Memphis (in general) jobs itself. This isn't one of those times.

What makes this situation simply stupid is that this BS has been going down for yrs and not just in Memphis. It's nationwide. How else coaches with high quality programs are able to net players? It's green, it looks and smells like money. Too many times everyone of us has seen this takes place and with today's findings against Memphis, it's no different.

With the Derrick Rose deal, obviously somebody felt jilted enough to leak this info to the NCAA to discredit the Tigers and to get back at Calipari for leaving the Tigers for more money. Expect Cal to be watched more closely since this is twice now that something has happen during his tenure as a coach. As for Derrick Rose, although cheating is wrong, you can't truly blame him for the actions of certain ppl who went to great lengths to obtain him for the program.

The entire NCAA is corrupt.

Concise but astute (and spot on) observation.

It sucks, but we cheated and we got caught. We'll apparently appeal it on the basis that Rose's eligibility was cleared in advance by the NCAA clearing house (seems like a good argument to me) - but the facts are terribly against us. Rose fails the SAT three times and then inexplicably passes it on the fourth try ... in another city ... in another's handwriting.

The selective enforcement of the rule (i.e. an ineligible player renders all the games void) sucks as a fan. IIRC last summer/fall the NCAA determined Darrel Arthur's high school transcript grades were changed to render him eligible, so shouldn't Kansas also have to vacate the season under the same rule? However, I would expect this argument to ring hollow in the NCAA's ears.

At the very least, we should be thankful that there's no prospective punishment. If we were ineligible for postseason play for a few years or lost scholarships, then the program would be absolutely dead IMO.
