Re: Conley focused on his jump shot
It seems like no one ever talks about Conley, and when they do, it's usually in a negative fashion. It's good to see some positive stuff written about him. Although, I think he needs to work on finishing around the rim more than his jump shot, as he actually did really well in that department last year.
While I do believe that OJ Mayo being our starting PG gives us the best chance of being an elite team, I'm also a big believer in Conley's potential. He really stepped up his game when Hollins took over, and as long as Memphis acquires a big third guard (i.e. Tyreke Evans
) in this upcoming draft, I think Conley is going to be a big part of their future.
As much as I hate to say it, AI could stunt Conley and OJ's growth this season. My hope is that if it gets bad enough, Heisley will swallow his pride and either trade AI or buy him out. We really don't need to be sacrificing our future for a one-year rental.

This just struck me as an oxymoron. Can one year really sacrifice the future of Conley? Also, as a fan of the Grizz, why would you hope for the situation to get bad?

Yeah, one year of AI and Zach Randolph running your lockeroom along with decreased minutes can definitely stunt a third year PG. And I never said I want the team's situation to go sour. I said that in a case in which it does, I hope Heisley handles it the right way.

Fair enough on the bad situation thing - I read over your post too quickly. As to the AI/Randolph comment, I'd counter that (1) developing as a player in a consistently losing program/franchise/environment is just as bad and (2) it's only one season.

Re: Conley focused on his jump shot
Now that they seemingly have "parted ways" with Marko Jaric it looks more like a backcourt trio with Iverson and Mayo getting the bulk of the minutes and Conley somewhere in the low to mid twenties. Marcus Williams will be the "insurance" guard, and Sam Young the same if he can adapt to shooting guard.
I'm okay with that I guess but I sure would have liked to have seen a Raja Bell mixed in instead of Iverson. But who knew he was on the block at the time? I wonder if AI would have signed with Charlotte instead as rumored Bell could have been an option?

If you would rather have Bell than Iverson, you did not see Bell play last season.

Re: Conley focused on his jump shot
stunt the growth is the most over used term in the history of sports.how do you stunt the growth of a guy who has not won more than 24 games in each of his 1st 2 seasons?it's obvious that conley will be a solid player for yrs to come but it's even more obvious that he hasn't lived up to the #4 pick as of yet.
what I like is that unlike some of the fans, the guys who have to play the game like and have embraced their new teammates.the 2 best players from the previous yr are tired of losing and so called building for the future.

Actually I didn't see much of Raja Bell last season. You are probably correct, if I can read between the lines, that his best days are behind him since he doesn't have Steve Nash making him look good. When I look at the Bobcats roster it is pretty thin with talent and you have to wonder why a player like Bell, who is an expiring contract at a not too big amount, is reportedly on the trading block. Forget my Bell idea.
I am an Allen Iverson fan and hope he does well but I still think a more defensive type of guard would have been the better fit. I just hope Conley keeps a positive attitude and works hard. But Iverson has proven to be very durable over his long career so there won't be the big minutes for Conley like he had the last part of last season under Hollins.
