Flash Forward

On opening night of the 2010/11 season the Grizz starting lineup is:

OJ Mayo
Sam Young
DeMarre Carroll
Zach Randolph
Hasheem Thabeet

Coached by Larry Brown

So what happened to lead to these events?

In my scenario:

While Hollins was a great communicator, Heisley knew that the team could not take the next step without having a more experienced hand on the sidelines. Larry Brown was available after the sale of the Bobcats, the new owners knew there was no need for a change monger for an organization going nowhere.

Hasheen Thabeet who got off to a slow start in 2009 began to understand around December that if he truly understood his role he could dominate in what he is asked to do. That and the Grizz are so woeful at team defense that they needed a deterent for more minutes on the floor.

Mike Conley was finally traded. Enough said

OJ Mayo decided not to be a turnover machine, and realised dribbling thru two people has a 10% chance of working. He wanted to be like his idol Magic Johnson not just in the number on his jersey but in directing and managing the game. An excellent passer with the ability to knock down the open jumper is viewed as a top ten point guard in the league.

Rudy Gay received a ridiculous offer sheet from the NJ Nets that the guys at Donkey Land haven't stopped laughing at and asking WHO you are going to pay $12 mil a year to? The Grizz were all to happy to let him walk.

Sam Young and Demarre Carroll proved what every basketball guru knows, that you have to have role players in your starting five and who are not deficient defensively as well. Not only did they prove to be fan favorites during there rookie seasons but they inspired many of the moves previously mentioned. They are collectively known as "tougher than leather".

As for Zach Randolph, nobody talks about his misfortunate incidents anymore just that he brings it every night and that this Grizz team is the toughest in the league.

Give your lineup and how we got to the point?

My line up next year would be something like

PG Iverson
SG OJ
SF Gay
PF Randolph
C Gasol

Iverson will be back at his best. That guy that used to score 25pts 8assist. unstoppable machine at 4thQ. OJ will improve, he is about to be an allstar(something gay will never be)
Gay...Memphis will give him more than he dereserves so it will be the begginning of the end of his career and will end up in a player like Corey maggete or cuttino mobley.
Randolph is making something like 18-8. He is having his touches, he is not that selfish and problematic plaer anymore. Gasol Is Beast in the D. Something everyone expected from Thabeet but that is not coming. Gasol is starting Center, getting his 33mins. a 10-10 guy with blocks and good%. he can play the ball in offense. The grizzs will play playoff this year.

Thabeet and Conley In the bench, They are not giving what everyone expect from them. Arthur getting 20mins from Zach and Gasol.
