I can see 5/40 for Rudy for what he does. If he develops a better 3 pt shooting range and better defense, he would get his 5/50 deal.

Re: Grizzlies, Rudy Gay Unlikely To Reach Extension
Gay, a 6-foot-9 forward, has been seeking an extension comparable to the five-year, $60 million deal the Indiana Pacers gave Danny Granger(notes) last year. Memphis has offered $50 million over five years in recent days, sources said, but will still need to close the gap before the NBA’s deadline on Monday.
One league source says a shorter contract – three years for $33 million-$36 million – has also been discussed with Gay’s reps from Octagon.

Close the gap already Heisley! I would offer $55 million guaranteed and about $5 million of defensive/winning incentives.
Seriously, if Heisley doesn't sign Gay by Monday, I think it becomes quite clear just how cheap the guy really is. You can't preach to the fans that you will spend money when it is right and then not open up your wallet to extend a young, top-3 player on your team, whom you have been saying you are going to build around since you traded Battier for him.

I think that if you're outside "the group" of 2010 guys, you'll likely get hammered contract-wise trying to get something done next summer....unless some moron GM misses out on the major targets and has to overpay to satisfy a star/owner/etc....
...Rudy could very well play himself into deserving and getting 5/50 this season, however. We shall see.
I like this post. If I was Rudy Gay's agent, I'd have a hard time advising him to pass on 5/$50. The price is high, but the five years is thetoughest part for a team. Gay has talent and upside, but that's a lot of longterm risk as well.
Moreover, free agency could leave him out in the cold. The declining cap may take money out of the free agent pool, and I agree that the big names go first. Gay could end up like Sessions, who saw all the money get spent, and was forced to take a deal for less than he was worth simply because there were no more suitors left.

Hey Raps fan here. I just want your input about Rudy Gay if he produces in any other department aside from points and rebounds. I'm thinking of trading him for Jeff Green should i pull the trigger?

Re: Grizzlies, Rudy Gay Unlikely To Reach Extension
In this mornings article it said Gay and his agent were firm on $12mil a year for any extention while Memphis were firm on $10mil. It also said that Gay made a big mistake in not taking the offer.
I agree. I think Rudy Gay should have looked at what happened this past summer with the group of power forward free agents. A 5 year, $50mil deal is better than what he will be offered after this season. I always wonder where some of these players get their advice from. Gay would be set for life(and still only be 28 years old) yet for some reason, whether it's ego or people blowing smoke up his butt he risks it all.

I think he will be waiting a long time this summer for a contract.

Meh, not really too sure about that. He is young and talented. Teams that feel they have no shot at Bosh, James, or Wade are going to throw cash at him.

Right now, Gay is at 10mil per year. To get to 12mil, he needs to improve his Assists and/or 3pt shooting. He's shooting a better percentage this because he's taking less 3's but still does not help his team with enough passing.
